How Tanaa Banaa takes you back into the good old days!

Viewers of HUM TV are having a great time this Ramadan; apart from Chupke Chupkethey are also being treated to a half-an-hour family drama Tanaa Banaa that airs right after Iftaar daily. It not only takes the audience back to the good old 90s when life was simple and families lived together, but also when the hustle and bustle wasn’t part of anyone’s life.

Written by Hassan Imam and directed by Saife Hasan, Taana Banaa makes you forget your own problems because the issues it highlights are quite relatable issues. Also, the characters seem quite familiar as if we either know them or might have met them at some point in time. Let’s take a look at Tanaa Banaa and find out why it makes you fall in love with everyone in the play, except those who don’t want to be loved!

Daniyal Zafar and Alizeh Shah make a perfect couple!

The drama revolves around a young couple Zain and Zoya played by Daniyal Zafar and Alizeh Shah who get married first, but fall in love afterward. Although Daniyal is making his TV debut as an actor, Alizeh has proved herself in the last couple of years. But here, they look like two sweethearts who might have had an arranged marriage but are perfect candidates for a love marriage.

The way they look at each other, interact with each other and the chemistry they share is rarely seen in our dramas today where the husband usually falls for his wife’s friend, an elderly woman or even the housemaid. Thankfully, there is no such thing in Tanaa Banaa where the joint-family system is shown as the perfect family system, and where ‘concern’ keeps them happy, binds them together.

Family that eats together, stays together …

The Joint-family system was usually promoted in Haseena Moin’s plays, and it seems the writer is heavily inspired by the later playwright’s dramas. After all, the name Zain is taken from Tanhaiyyan, Zoya from Dhoop Kinarey and I am wondering when an Ahmer would make his appearance. The good thing is that the inspiration ends here and the writer Hassan Imam weaves magic around a marriage that has taken place, a household that loves to eat together and create problems using these two scenarios.

From the Dadi (Ismat Zaidi) to the father (Aamir Qureshi), mother (Javeria Abbasi) to aunt (Komal Rizvi), everyone in Zain’s household is a character that can be found in any of our families. The youngest person in the house Bilal also reminds you of Jibran from Ankahi (also a Haseena Moin play) who seems to know more about the world than his cousin who just lost his job because he tried too hard to end up in the good books of both his wife and the mother.

Who doesn’t want a Shahid Phupa in their lives …

And then there is Shahid Phupa, played perfectly by Hasan Noman. He not only lives in his wife’s maika but doesn’t even consider it an issue. That’s why whenever he gives his two cents in a family matter, they are thrown back at him with full force. However, he is Zain’s friend-in-need and advises him whenever he is unable to think clearly. In fact, when no one in the house knew that Zain was going to meet Zoya, he handed him money to have a perfect date, much to Zain’s annoyance! His catchphrase ‘setting bana raha tha’ is becoming quite popular because not only it’s funny, it also fits perfectly in every scenario. Whenever Zain is in trouble, Shahid Phupa knows what to do, and ‘creates a setting’ that helps all parties involved.

Then there is the other kind of a ‘contract’

Finally something about the biggest issue of ‘em all – the contract Zoya made Zain sign before marriage. Here, the husband and the audience are on the same page literally for neither does he know what the clauses are, nor do the viewers. After a dozen episodes, the viewers have found out only a few clauses and they are curious about the rest. After all, making Zain pray at Fajr, buy gifts for his family members, or helping his wife continue her studies is something every parent would want their grown-up kid to do.

However, some of the viewers might love to switch places with Bilal aka Billu who caught a glimpse of the contract and memorized it by heart. He is the only person in the house beside the couple who knows what’s going on, but since he is smart, he is not disclosing the details to anyone. How he will help the young couple from embarrassment is what would be making the next few episodes of Tanaa Banaa interesting!

Sarah Khan – The Epitome of Grace and Style

Sarah Khan

Known to be one of the most admired, stunning and multifaceted actresses currently in Pakistan’s media industry, Sarah Khan has won hearts across the globe for her versatile and sensational acting.

Sarah has been part of the acting world since 2012. She marked her debut in a HUM TV Drama called Badi Aapa and has won the hearts of many ever since.

Besides her attractive looks and remarkable acting skills, Sarah Khan has gained immense popularity in the past few years due to her graceful, elegant and stylish sense of fashion that resonates in every role she plays. Her remarkable taste in clothing and ability to carry every outfit glamorously and tastefully has inspired many women across Pakistan.

Sarah as the Chic and Trendy Miraal in Sabaat

Even though Sarah is known to be one of the finest young actresses in the industry it wasn’t until recently that she gained tremendous popularity for her sense of style and fashion.

Her austere, combative and malicious role in Sabaat not only helped portray just how skilled and capable she is an actress but also was the perfect platform to represent her voguish sense of style.

Miraal (played by Sarah) was turning heads left right and center. The whole country was swooning over Miraal’s wardrobe, which can be classified as modern, classy and chic was pulled off with absolute finesse by Sarah Khan.

From sleek jumpsuits, classy dress shirts to snazzy trench coats Miraal was dressed to the nines throughout the TV Serial.

Sarah as the Regal and Graceful Zohra in Raqs e Bismil

As opposed to her spiteful, malevolent and extremely spoilt character in Sabaat we see Sarah as Zohra in Raqs e Bismil that is poles apart from the character of Miraal.

Forced to follow the footsteps of the women in her family, Zohra is involved in a business that she doesn’t feel comfortable being a part of. She is a headstrong, brave and dauntless character that tolerates no discourtesy towards herself or her family.

Even though her character suggests otherwise Zohra’s wardrobe is extremely dainty and beautiful. From traditional Shalwar Kameez to regal gowns we see Sarah as classical, opulent and spectacular as can be which adds grace to her cast-iron character.

The Mind Behind the Work of Art

We talked to Sarah Khan’s stylist Sania Sohail, to get a better perspective and idea of her thought process during the styling of both the characters.

She said, “It was an extremely challenging yet fun experience styling both the characters, especially the character of Miraal in Sabaat.

It was unlike any other character played by Sarah before. This was the first time she stepped out of the typical roles played by her in the past and acted in a negative role. The unique role that led a professional life gave us a lot of leeway to get as creative and distinctive as we possibly can with her wardrobe.

Sarah herself was deeply involved in curating a unique wardrobe for Miraal and would often find pieces herself that she knew would fit well in Miraal’s wardrobe.”

“The role of Zohra was the polar opposite of Miraal. Just like in Miraal’s character we got to be as creative as we possibly can with Zohra as well however in a completely different manner. From the Miraal in parties glammed in sparkly and bedazzled gowns to the Miraal in her day-to-day life, adorned in traditional and beautiful eastern wear there was a lot of diversity hence more space to be ingenious and innnovative.”

While it can be said without a doubt that Sarah Khan has proven herself to be an amazing actress and her beauty knows no limits, her well thought out, unique and alluring wardrobe is the cherry on top needed to complete her character.

Five Reasons That Make Chupke Chupke A Must Watch This Ramadan

Writer Saima Akram Chaudhry and director Danish Nawaz join hands to come up with a perfect Ramadan series that is a treat for the entire family. It has an amalgamation of both new actors and old ones who look their part, who act as if they really are a family, and whose well-being has become the utmost important thing in the eyes of the audience. There is no antagonist or protagonist, but normal characters who want to remain happy in their lives, even if it means disturbing someone else’s peace for the time being.

Featuring an ensemble cast comes second here, as it is the characters who take the drama forward, not the actors. Intelligent writing and brilliant execution is what makes Chupke Chupke a must-watch this Ramadan. What are the other reasons that make it a trending show after 10 episodes, let’s find out!

Brilliant performances make you want to watch

Osman Khalid Butt uses this unique opportunity to prove that he is not just a pretty face, or a good dancer but an actor who can adapt to any genre. His last appearance in Ehd-e-Wafa was as a scheming politician, but here he plays the lone young man in a houseful of women, and a ghar damaad. His dialogue delivery is perfect for someone who wants to be happy but has so many responsibilities on his shoulders. Ayeza Khan also uses the chance to break off from serious roles, and plays a duffer student to perfection; when she breaks an object or collides with someone or lies for her own benefit, she looks natural which is ‘polar opposite’ of her ‘mature’ role in other TV dramas.

Then there is the near-perfect pairing of Ali Safina and Mira Sethi; he is a ghar damaad from Sadiqabad while she is the oldest sibling, older than her twin brother by a minute. His life revolves around her while hers revolves around her own brother who has his heart in his right place but might go insane if the sisters don’t leave him alone. Farhan Ally Agha’s character must be mentioned here for he is the only surviving man of the family after the death of his father, and his brothers (one of them was a step-brother) and that’s what makes him worried about his family’s finances. Asma Abbas as his mother and Tara Mahmood as his wife do an excellent job as the matriarch and her daughter-in-law respectively, who have to keep their wishes in check, otherwise Kifayat might start thinking about finances again!

Newcomers excel in major characters

It’s not just the experienced campaigners who steal the show; one must mention newcomers Arslan Naseer (of Comics by Arslan fame) and Aymen Saleem for giving the audience ‘couple goals’. They might be acting for the first time on TV but while he has the experience of making fun of everything under the sun, she looks cute with or without glasses – being able to act is a bonus. Their chemistry is nothing short of perfect and although in the first 10 episodes, they are shown as being attracted to each other, one has always acted as the brother, and consider the other as his sister, making things awkward all around.

I haven’t seen much of either Huma Baig or Hira Soomro but they manage to do well; they not only fit the characters they play but bring a fresh feeling to the drama that makes it worth your time. Aadi Khan as the wannabe cricketer and Areesha as the firecracker in the family add color to the screen for they are always fighting with each other or for each other. They do look like the part of the family and one hopes their characters meet a happy end – one gets selected as an Under-19 Cricketer and the other passes her exams with flying colors.

The writing reminds you of popular family dramas

When was the last time you saw a drama where the characters reminded you of someone in your own family? Where the quirks of someone onscreen made you realize that you aren’t the only one who does that thing? In Chupke Chupke, writer Saima Akram Chaudhry creates each and every character as if they were based on a real person, making the audience fall in love with them. Who doesn’t have a Gul Aapa who doesn’t want to be number two in her house; there is a Kifayat Chacha in every house who believes in saving money anyway which he can; every house has a Mirchi who is the favorite of the patriarch or matriarch but is hated by the rest; and one must not forget the brother who wants to get married but doesn’t despite being the most decent person in the house.

It is characters like these and interesting lines like Meenu Tu Larki Bohat Cool Hai, Par Yeh Duniya Bari Fuzool Hai and Ashkay Bhai Ashkay that make the audience like the characters as much as the scenarios their interaction creates. Saima Akram Chaudhry must be commended for her brilliant writing, for she makes each character believable and not once do you get the feeling that a female writer has penned the script. No one is bad in this universe and everyone has their heart in the right places, just like Haseena Moin’s classic PTV dramas.

Danish Nawaz proves he was made for comedy

We all know Danish Nawaz is a good actor turned director; we also know that he always was way ahead of others when it came to comedy acting. Through Chupke Chupke, he manages to combine both the talents and come up with a romantic comedy that not only does justice to the script but also benefits the actors. His experience with comedy and direction comes in handy here as he makes even the newest entrant act like a pro; veteran actors like Asma Abbas, Farhan Ally Agha, Shehryar Zaidi and others must also be commended for looking the part, than playing themselves.

The electrifying pace keeps the audience interested

Usually, TV dramas lose the plot after a handful of episodes, and that’s where they lose the viewers’ interest. Since Chupke Chupke comes every day after Iftaar, the makers don’t have to drag the situations and keep it to-the-point. The audience also ends up in a winning situation as they don’t have to wait for a week to know what will happen next. Everything sort of happens at an electrifying pace, and even if someone misses one episode, they have enough time to catch up before the next one. Be it the breaking news about some character, or the entry of another, it doesn’t seem like a drag, making it worth every minute.

Digital Health Intervention Challenges in Pakistan

Digital Health

Digital Health Intervention Challenges in Pakistan

Digital health consists of digital care programs, advanced technologies, healthcare consultation via the internet, and quick and efficient delivery of medicines. It is a well-positioned program usually for the overall healthcare industry; however, it is due to the increasing access to mobile phones, internet connectivity, and advanced software.

This article evaluates some of the basic factors that potentially facilitate or obstruct the overall progress of digital health in the country, Pakistan.

The WHO- World Health Organization highlighted digital health as an effective global and organizational strategy from 2020 to 2024. Its digital policy draft for healthcare defined it as the health of an individual as the field of basic knowledge as well as practice that associated with development and the use of most of the digital technologies in order to create a better health care system.

Digital Healthcare Industry of Pakistan

Digital Healthcare Industry

The digital healthcare industry in Pakistan is not limited or narrow, in reality it is a broad concept that also encompasses mobile health, electronic health (e-health), advanced computing of science along with tele-medicine, and the use of AI for data. Many healthcare centers, along with consumers’ need to understand these facilities.

According to the reports of Growth Forecast for Digital Health Market, a fast pace in rapid growth of digital health industry is expected to be worth $504.4 billion by the year 2025.

Global market insights have created a viewpoint that has an affordable and accessible solution for those who face issues or challenges to get access to traditional health systems and are not aware of the digital systems. For that purpose it is a significant tool to achieve a sustainable growth of development to make them  aware about the modern digital ways.

Pakistan is coping  with the latest technology, and the implementation of it has begun. The concept of online pharmacy in Pakistan is the greatest example of the advancement of technology as a digital healthcare intervention.

Digital technologies like machine learning and artificial intelligence are  integral as well as the most significant part of many companies as well as for businesses development across the world.

Digital Health Interventions in Pakistan

The ratio of doctor to patient in Pakistan is close to about 0.83 of physicians per 1000 individuals across the population of the country, according to official reports. The digital health interventions are designed to address the various needs of health care.

However, these programs are just some of the examples of the successful yet significant interventions of the digital health that are carried out in the regions of Pakistan, in spite of the limited resources that are available because of the financial constraints of the country.

Mobile apps are also one of the intervention solutions as well along with social media which has also proven to be an efficient and effective factor in digital healthcare programs across the world. That being said there is only limited data records available on use of these emerging technologies for improving the healthcare services in various sectors.

As per the official source by Google Play reports, about 95% of smartphones that are used are based on Android models in Pakistan, and the apps that are available in various app stores are also already available on this platform.

Challenges Regarding Digital Health Interventions

Challenges Regarding Digital Health

The challenges that are highlighted after conducting several kinds of research by the healthcare sectors of Pakistan include the difficulty of acceptance of eHealth technology due to lack of knowledge and awareness, lack of funding in governmental or non-governmental sectors, use of various digital apps on smartphones, implementation of the digital systems, lack of smartphones’ use in rural areas and constraints in resources.

According to Pakistan’s eHealth Association, the information on the currently existing digital health related studies is studied and identified by conducting various researches. The acceptance of the eHealth is vital in our society for the betterment of the nation and also for ease and convenience.

The studies regarding this were simply excluded after reviewing it, if the project was not related to or based in terms of Pakistan or if it didn’t explicitly involve the digital health interventions like telemedicine, eHealth types, or the technologies of telecommunication such as the internet, computers, or the email.

The implementation of software development is essential, whereas the IT and electrical engineers are also keenly work for the development and overcoming the challenges of digital healthcare interventions.

Smartphones and other electronic devices are also the most commonly used devices of digital health; as per the statistics, it is used in 55% of these interventions; the websites, as well as the portals, were also employed in 25%. The reports further added, telehealth is used in 9% as special devices like the e-stethoscopes also; the e-ultrasounds were also used with a ratio of about 9% of the overall projects and 3% for the mobile phone use was recorded.

Solutions to the Challenges

solutions

Users of the digital system were required to just undergo some basic as well as specialized training that is specific to the technology that is being used in about 76% of interventions. The training will help the users to overcome the challenges and issues that are caused for digital health interventions in Pakistan.

However, the training varies in terms of time, like overall duration. Global standards should be followed by the individuals as well as by the groups regarding these digital interventions for the betterment of healthcare organizations.

Due to a lack of resources like the financial constraints in Pakistan, the challenges are faced by the overall industry of healthcare. The high-speed of the internet is not available in all the areas of the nation, and as per the data, only 4% of the population uses the smartphone; this among many other are major issues.

The implementation of the technology-based intervention consisting of human resources and the infrastructure’s financial cost for the software also are barriers because of the lack of funding.
