Bringing forward the slogan of ‘Aage ki soch,’ HUM News, recently launched news channel by HUM Network employed a Sikh female reporter for the first time in the history of Pakistan.
Manmeet Kaur, the 24-year-old Peshawar-based Pakistani girl has done her masters in Social Sciences from the Jinnah College for Women and will be seen reporting on the issues of human rights, minorities, local communities and non-governmental organizations.
Talking to Quint, Kaur said “When I got this platform, I got opportunity to do something for my religion, my country Pakistan.”
“The channel wanted to capture minorities and youth of Pakistan and my credentials fit perfectly well so I grabbed it with both hands,” she added.
There are about 15,000 Sikh families in Peshawar but unfortunately the community battles low literacy rates. With this new initiative by HUM News we hope more women like Manmeet will come forward to make a difference.
