Iqra Aziz is everyone’s favorite right now.
We thought to spoke to the ‘Suno Chanda’ star to know about her post-fame state of mind, changing stereotypes and contrasts between Ajiya in Suno Chanda and Naeema in Khamoshi.
1- How has been the response for Suno Chanda for you?
I had no idea that Suno chanda would be such a massive hit. I have received an overwhelming response for it. Even now 4-5-year-old kids still come up to me and say “Suno chanda, Suno Chanda” so it makes me really excited to see how this show is celebrated by people. I am content to see that individuals are accepting how girls and boys can play different characters rather than being conventional.
Presenting the mesmerizing melody

Instead of a man portraying to be masculine at all times and a woman siding with gloomier and depressed roles; a strong headed girl like Ajiya was accepted widely by the audience. Also, the character of Arsal who was very easy going and light hearted was perceived very nicely by everyone, so it really makes me happy to see that people not only accepted but also loved these characters and even expect a sequel for the show.
2- What’s more fun? Negative characters or positive ones?
Negative characters are more fun because I just did one even though previously I had been doing positive roles mainly. However, the fun part about negative roles is the fact that there are a lot of avenues that you can explore and you can get into things, which you don’t know about!
Basically, you get to feel emotions that you haven’t really experienced before and given that I’m an optimistic person in real life, when I took upon my first negative character it definitely demanded a lot from me. So, I had to channel emotions that I usually wouldn’t have but it was pretty good because you get to experiment with so much more.
3- Is there a specific frame of mind that you chose to be in while doing Khamoshi? Was it tough to snap out of a specific frame of mind or character mode?
It was actually really difficult to get out of the character mode I was playing because once Khamoshi ended, and the shooting was complete, it took me over a week to let go of the negativity I was feeling while playing Naeema’s character. Since I have an elder sister myself, I could relate to the jealousy that Naeema was experiencing which was the frame of mind that I kept engaging in, since its human nature to experience sibling rivalry.
However, Naeema’s jealousy was on an extreme level so it was difficult to snap out of it initially but managed to let go of it eventually. So all was good!

4- What have been your favorite takeaways as Ajiya in Suno Chanda?
Every scene has a beautiful memory attached to it, because all the scenes I shot either with Arsal or any other character were so much fun to do. Not only was it entertaining while shooting but also when we would be off screen.
The entire cast got along well with one another, cracking a lot of jokes with the senior actors as well and keeping the vibe friendly and positive, so overall it was enjoyable. The entire duration of shooting “Suno Chanda” of two months was absolutely amazing.
5- What would be your favorite choice? Naeema or Ajiya?
That is a very difficult question and I would want to leave the answer to that for the audience to determine which character they like best haha! I can relate to Ajiya whereas keeping the negativity aside I share some similarities with Naeema too.
