Google Doodle honours Pakistani legend Mehdi Hassan on his 91st birthday

Globally known as the ‘Shehenshah-e-Ghazal,’ Mehdi Hasan was born on 18th July, 1927 in Rajasthan, India.

The legendary ghazal singer would have turned 91 today but failed in battling a decade long-illness in 2012.

To honor his contributions in the world of music and to mark the maestro birthday, Google honored him with a doodle.

Wearing what the world remembers him in; a dark waist coat over cream colored shalwar kameez, Mehdi Hassan’s doodle sits with his harmonium, surrounded by candles. Isn’t it just beautiful?

Mehdi’s first musical performance was on Radio Pakistan in 1957, primarily as a thumri singer, which earned him recognition within the musical fraternity.

After that, he never looked back, going on to sing ghazals and playback songs for Pakistani movies. Mehdi Hassan was one of the best ghazal singer of all time since then.

Adding shine to his musical career, he has a plethora of awards to his name, including Pride of Performance (1985), Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (1985), Hilal-e-Imtiaz (2010), and Nishan-e-Imtiaz (2010).

Happy birthday Legend!

Enjoy one of his best ghazals on this big day:
