Three Restaurants That Take You Back In Time

Karachi is popular for many things and food is one of them. Since 1947, the largest metropolitan has been the hub for people from all over the country when it comes to food.

However, in this fast-paced era, there are a few restaurants in Karachi that take you back in time, not because of their décor but because of their taste. These restaurants have either opened new branches in other parts of the city or rediscovered some form of delicacy that was going dead with the passage of time.

Visit these places to relive the time when life was simple and food was enjoyed, not just consumed.

Tooso – Since 1976

For a long time, Tooso was the only restaurant in Karachi that offered Fast Food; the ‘Since 1976’ is of importance because, before that, Fast Food was just limited to hotels. After Tooso, many restaurants copied their style and even went a step further to develop their own niche.

After ruling the scene at Bahadurabad, Tooso opened its second branch in Defence in Karachi where they continued to provide quality food to its customers. However recently, they moved their Defence branch near Café Clifton where they have two floors to cater to both the young and the old.

It has been explicitly designed to give you the touch of the 1970s when people used to dine in groups, and not order online to eat alone.

#karachi is blessed with #monsoon #rain and we at Tooso want you not to worry about breakfast. So for the next two…

The new-look Tooso will transport you back in that time, with the quality of food remaining the same. The Gola Kabab that has remained one of Tooso’s specialty is now considered a must-have, considering not many places in Karachi how to make the perfect Gola Kabab.

Some people visit the place in the morning for a healthy breakfast while the Fast Food items such as Tooso Special Club Sandwich are still in demand, still better than many of their competitors. The Deals are both fulfilling and affordable, a combination still alien to most restaurants in the city, while the ambiance is worth your while.

Kaybees – Serving Since 1979

Seven branches in 40 years, if that’s not an achievement I don’t know what is. The owners of Kaybees started it as a challenge in 1979 and since then have been making inroads in different parts of the city.

They opened their second branch in Defence Phase 2 at the turn of the century and followed it with 5 more, taking the total in 2019 to five branches and two franchises. Their latest branch is situated in the busy area of Badar Commercial in Defence where they stand tall in front of the competition.

On the opposite side is the now sealed Bundu Khan whereas the extremely popular Daily Dubai Restaurant falls on the right. On the other side there is the busiest branch KFC, but with Kaybees in the vicinity, the location belongs to the King.

Desi – Furiously Delicious!!Traditional Daal Handi- Available only at DHA outlet. #kaybees #desi #daal #handi

The place is not just pleasant to dine in, it maintains the flavor of the original Kaybees; people used to throng to the restaurant way back in the 1980s because of its superior Club Sandwich and signature ice cream, which don’t have a match to this day. The Sizzling Kabab and the Chicken Mughlai Boti is undoubtedly world-famous while their Chicken Shashlik with Rice is without a doubt their finest product. And then there is their proud delicacy, the Kaybees Ice Cream.

Two generations have grown consuming the Kaybees Ice Cream, be it in a cup or a cone, and it continues to get popular amongst the current generation for its unique taste and affordability.

The Bun Story – Back To The Buns!

There was a time when people used to love Buns in Karachi; many bakeries in the old part of Karachi were famous for their normal and Hot Cross Buns.

However, with the passage of time, these bakeries were limited to selling buns like hot cakes only ahead of religious festivals such as Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. However, one restaurant that took the challenge and made a business out of buns is The Bun Story, and it is doing quite well since opening its first branch at Khayaban-e-Badar, Karachi.

Not just it bakes bun on the spot and fills them with whatever you desire, the restaurant follows the theme of Fairy Tales, making it a must-visit place with Kids.

As for the menu, you can start with Starters that come with many options, provided you order the platter. Then there is a variety of things that you can choose from such as Pasta, Steaks, Waffles, Salads, and Soups to name a few. And finally, there is the Stuffed Buns section on the menu that will give your brain so much choice that you will forget you are in a restaurant but in a dream.

There is the traditional Muska Bun, followed by a Nutella Bun, which will give your sweet taste buds a run for the money. However, if you want to eat Buns for dinner, you can choose from different stuffings such as Chicken Alfredo, Chicken Fajita and Chicken Bar B Q; all these buns will be baked after your order is taken and the stuffing is ‘stuffed’ into it.

You may not have had such kind of a Bun anywhere in the country, so don’t be surprised when a custom-baked Bun lands on your plate. Visit the place and have fun dining with your favorite characters present there, in spirit and in the menu. Bon appetite!
