As 2019 draws to its glorious end, eyes look forward to the New Year and what the drama industry has in store for the audience!
We saw an emerging crop of performers that showed some major acting potential. All of these fresh faces took their entertainment innings to next level this year, both in front and behind the camera.
Some of these actors’ careers imploded overnight while the rest worked their way to rise to the top. However, these are the budding artists who are poised to become the superstars of tomorrow.
So who will become the next big thing? Only time will tell, but we’ve compiled a few rising stars to look out for!

Alizeh Shah
Where you have seen her: Superstar, Ehd-e-Wafa, Ishq Tamasha, Jo Tou Chahay
Her rise to fame: Becoming a social media darling in no time, Alizeh Shah has all the right makings of a promising megastar.
With the entire nation gone crazy over her doll-like face and expressive eyes, she was also amongst Google’s most searched Pakistani Celebrities of 2019! We were not surprised when she won the award for Best New Sensation Television Female at Kashmir 7th Hum Awards 2019.
Consequently, with a supporting role in Superstar and acting stints in various popular dramas, it is only a matter of time until Alizeh unlocks a leading role in an upcoming Pakistani movie.
Currently, she is ruling over everyone’s hearts as Dua in Ehd-e-Wafa. Her chemistry with Ahad Raza Mir is giving a tough competition to ‘Sahad’ and has made this drama a game-changer for her career.
Super curious to know what’s coming up next for her, we asked Alizeh about her future projects. Here’s what she had to say:
There are some good projects. I am on the stage of reading scripts so I can’t really say much but something definitely good is on its way.
Whatever Alizeh will do next, she’s sure to be a standout star.
Azaan Sami Khan
Where you have seen him: Superstar promotions, Kashmir 7th Hum Awards 2019 and almost everywhere on Instagram!
His rise to fame: Eyes have always been on Azaan Sami Khan, given that he is the talented son of the veteran actress Zeba Bakhtiar and music maestro, Adnan Sami Khan.
Not to forget his weight-loss transformation took social media by storm, making him one of the hottest young artists to look out for!
In 2018, his music compositions in Parwaz Hai Junoon were loved by all. However this year, Azaan gained even more prestige and catapulted to stardom after he penned the story for Superstar alongside composing its soundtrack.
Not only the movie proved to be a smashing success, its melodies too were a hit!
However, this is just the start for Azaan for he has also bagged a leading role in an upcoming Pakistani movie ‘Patakh De’.
Speaking to Hum Spotlight in an earlier interview, he revealed:
I haven’t sung and acted as yet; I plan to do both in the coming days. With Patakh De, it will be my debut as an actor opposite Hania Aamir, and alongside Ahsan Khan and Shamoon Abbasi. I have always wanted to act but before that, I wanted to know the basics of showbiz and that’s why my parents rightly advised me to get a grip on how things are done before taking the giant leap.
Naimal Khawar
Where you have seen her: Verna, Anaa
Her rise to fame:
2019 was a significant year for Naimal Khawar!
Her drama debut ‘Anaa’, proved to be a massive hit and her pair with Usman Mukhtar proved to be an even bigger success!
So much so, when she announced that she will be no longer pursuing acting further to focus on her art, social media erupted in a frenzy. Surely, Naimal was bidding farewell to acting too soon, breaking the hearts of her fans and admirers in the process.
If truth be told, Naimal’s personality is destined for great things. The artist not only boasts immense star power, but she also exhibits great acting prowess. Moreover, her stunning features and porcelain skin made her amongst the most beautiful actresses of the year.
Despite that we hope she reconsiders her decision and returns to acting, we wish she is enjoying this new life with her husband, Hamza Ali Abbasi who too has parted ways with the glitzy entertainment world to focus more on his spiritual side.
Raza Talish
Where you have seen him: Suno Chanda 2, Tabeer
His rise to fame: Son of the veteran director AehsunTalish and grandson of the legendary actor Agha Talish, Raza Talish was hard to miss in 2019!
Suno Chanda Season 2 proved to be a major turning point for the fledgling hero. Who would have thought that his role as the kohl-eyed, mama’s boy ‘Mithu’ in the drama will become a social media sensation!
Many people perceive Suno Chanda 2 as a Launchpad for Raza. However, he first appeared in 2018 in the drama ‘Tabeer’ as Shehryar.
Junior Talish has the looks, the talents and a smile that could charm the world! It is safe to assume that we will see him in more projects in the New Year. We are ready to watch him shine.
Azekah Daniel
Where you have seen her: Malaal-e-Yaar, Cheekh, Pari
Her rise to fame: An actress slowly making her way to the top, Azekha might be a fresh face in the industry but her acting skills have established her as a rising starlet to be reckoned with.
While Cheekh proved to be the tipping point of her career, her on-going drama ‘Malaal-e-Yaar’ was unlike any of her previous projects.
Essaying the role of a determined and strongminded young girl Hooriya, she rises as a warrior against the cruel feudal lords in her village and dares to defy the throttling cultural norms.
We asked Azekha that what made her sign Malaal-e-Yaar. Here’s what she had to say:
The reason I chose to do this project is that I do believe in the character that I am playing and I want to get a message across to my audience especially the women out there. I had read about the feudal system but it has always been hard for me to believe that it actually still happens.
Another reason for me to do this project is our director Mr. Asad Jabal. He brought out the best in me for this character which was a learning experience on its own.
Hopefully, we will be seeing more of Azekha in 2020 and she will come back with more fire for the future.
Zain Baig
Where you have seen him: Meer Abru, Maalal-e-Yaar and rocking the ramp!
His rise to fame: He is hot, handsome and has a future that looks promising! Behold Zain Baig, who is playing the role of the dominant feudal lord, the anti-hero Malik Balaaj in Malaal-e-Yaar.
However, his more popular character this year remains as ‘Saim’ in Meer Abru. Fans were heartbroken when he dies in the end, a twist no one had seen coming.
A chartered accountant by qualification, the model-turned-actor seems to have a natural flair for acting and he effortlessly dominates the screen while essaying any role.
A look at his acting career tells us that Zain is just warming up and blockbuster stardom awaits him. We are optimistic that in the upcoming days we will be seeing him in even more avant-garde roles.
We spoke to Zain Baig about his rise to fame. Here’s what he had to say:
My experience in the acting world is wonderful so far. It is not exactly a dream come true but I am enjoying every bit of it.
Rise to fame is a very strong statement, I am really humbled. Right now, I just want to work on good, exciting and challenging scripts. I hope New Year brings more of it.
