Television dramas not only create magic for our eyes- but they also do it for our ears!
Music has and will always be the ultimate companion for so many things, and our dramas are no exception. Over the years, original soundtracks (OSTs) made for television have evolved in their making, transforming into a powerful cornerstone to boost emotions in any drama.
These melodies can completely uplift our spirits from one significant scene to the next, adding value to our entire viewing experience.
While Hum TV has always risen to be the benchmark for quality dramas, it has also provided us with chart-topping soundtracks over its 15 years of inception. These are the songs that have forever been with us and had us hooked throughout with their breath-taking compositions.
To celebrate some of the best tunes of Hum TV dramas over the years, we have compiled a list of the most popular OSTs of all time. We bet some of these might have teared you up every time you heard them while the rest would have compelled you to break into a dreamy, romantic waltz with your partner.
Happy listening to these musical masterpieces all over again!
Dastaan
Singer and Composer: Sohail Haider
Dastaan’s OST ‘Aasmanoo Se Utara Noor Hai Koi” is one of the most swoon-worthy tunes that makes our heart swell with love every time we hear it.
Its romantic lyrics perfectly embody the feelings of love-at-first-sight while SohailHaider’s honeyed vocals and divine composition just perfected the moving melody.
The sweet symphony, supported by the sounds of the violin and sitar gives it the ultimate classic-contemporary feel that puts a spell on the listeners and charms them to put this track on repeat!
We had a heart to heart with the humble soul behind the track, SohailHaider who shared the story behind the making of this OST. Here’s what he told us:
Sohail Haider: No doubt Dastaan’s OST is one of the masterpieces that I am luckily attached with and of course, it will forever remain close to my heart. It wasn’t easy to come up with this tune as I composed this in the early years of my career and this was my second OST as a composer and singer after Mastana Mahi.
I was briefed by Momina Bhabhi (MominaDuraid) in detail that Dastaan is going to be one of its kind and will be the biggest drama serial of the year. Though later on, it became evergreen in the history of Pakistan’s drama industry.
The unique part is that I made something else for this serial which was almost approved by the entire team and Momina Bhabhi. On the same day, I asked them to show me some scenes of the drama, and I saw something phenomenal! The pure innocence and romance of Bano and Hasan. And I requested bhabhi to give me a silent, abandoned space and some more time in the MD Productions. It took me only 15 minutes to create the new whole song.
I sang it on guitar in front of the whole team and everyone was literally clapping afterward!
Even though it has been a decade to Dastaan, the OST remains timeless and Sohail remains ecstatic that the tune still has the same impact on the audience as it had ten years ago.
Sohail Haider: To be very honest, I had a gut feeling that this song will create magic and will make its mark. However, I didn’t know that even after 10 years it will remain the same for everyone.
It is really surprising that after so many other beautiful OSTs, Dastaan’s OST didn’t lose its identity. People are still emotionally attracted to it and love it the same way.
Humsafar
Singer: Quratulain Balouch
Composer: Waqar Ali
Hands down, Humsafar’s title track is amongst the cream of the crop of all HUM TV OSTs released to date.
Melancholy and suffering always remains a tricky emotion to stir in a song. But ‘WohHumsafarTha’ became the ultimate heartbreak song of Pakistanis after its release. We all have downloaded it, requested it on our favorite radio shows, made it our ringtone and still did not get over it.
Waqar Ali’s magical composition and Quratulain Balouch’s raw vocals made it the power track it is today.
However, we are sure that many might not be aware that this ballad was never meant to be a sorrowful song for jilted lovers. It was written in 1971 by the poetic legend, Naseer Turabi after the parting of East and West Pakistan!
So now you know ‘Kay DhoopChaoonKaAalamRahaJudaai Na Thi’ really meant all this time- the unfortunate separation between the two countries.
Zindagi Gulzar Hai
Singers: Hadiqa Kiani, Ali Zafar
Composer: Shani Arshad
We have forever adored the singing goddess HadiqaKiani and we loved her, even more, when she blessed us with the beautiful rendition of ‘ZindagiKhaak Na Thi’.Her voice in this OST just melts our hearts and literally makes us reflect upon our life.
But the real credit goes to NaseerTurabi whose golden pen gave us our favorite sad song. The poetry is so moving that every listener can relate to the melody in their own tragic manner, giving some major chills along the way.
Zindagi Gulzar Hai’s second OST by Ali Zafar was an equal hit, even though it was a peppy track in contrast to the one sung by Hadiqa Kiani.
Composer Shani Arshad is our behind-the-scenes musical expert who gave life to NaseerTurabi’s work, making the OSTs the talk of the town.
We asked him the untold story about the making of this OST and here’s what he told us:
Shani Arshad: Zindagi Gulzar Hai’s OST was most challenging for me as it was Sultana Siddiqui’s comeback drama. She was directing a drama after a long time so it was a huge responsibility for me and at that time I hadn’t compose many OSTs. It was my first OST for a drama so huge and was a challenge for me! However, I had never predicted that it will become so huge for me.
But I want to express my gratitude towards Sultana Aapa for giving me this huge opportunity. Later after this, there was a line of OSTs that were offered to me.
Diyar e Dil
Singers: Zeb Bangash & MominDurrani
Composer: Shani Arshad
Sweet, simple, sincere and serene, Diyar e Dil’s OST sung by Zeb Bangash and MominDurrani is one of the most magical tunes of all time.
Its soothing musical landscape driven by the sound of the soft flutes and shimmering strings shaped the entire mesmerizing vision of the song. The track sets the mood with its opening lines in Persian, diving you deep into a mystical journey of a lover longing for his beloved.
Yet again, Shani Arshad is the man behind this skilled composition who believes that choosing Zeb’s voice for the song proved to be a masterstroke idea.
Here’s what he had to say:
Shani Arshad: Diyar e Dil’s OST was a hit due to its simplicity. Its composition was very simple. I remember when I shared this song from scratch in my voice to MD Productions. Everyone fell in love with the track and our wise decision was to choose Zeb Bangash for the track.
It was our director’s Haseeb Hasan’s input that an ‘Alaap’ should be used in the opening of the track. So we roped in MominDurrani for this task. He is an awesome singer. This track required a lot of hard work despite its simple composition. Its musical arrangement required a lot of effort and it reaped a lot of appreciation. Nevertheless, I was not excepting such a tremendous response from this OST.
Mann Mayal
Singers: QuratulainBalouch&ShujaHaider
Composer: Shuja Haider
We adored QuratulainBalouch’s voice in Humsafar and we rooted for her all over again when she returned with a massive bang in Mann Mayal’s winning OST.
So much so, ‘TereNaalKyunLaiyanAkhiyan’ even became viral in India making the track a historic hit across the border.
Complimenting Quratulain Balouch’sheavy vocals was musical maestro, Shuja Haider. Together, they confidently sang a larger-than-life chartbuster to be remembered for years to come.
Shuja had also penned the lyrics of the melody, seamlessly describing the frustration and desperation of a heart lost in love, making the poetry one of the many reasons we love the song so much.
Khamoshi
Singers: Bilal Khan &Schumaila Khan
Composer: Atif Ali
Ever since ‘Bachana’, singing sensation Bilal Khan has reaped a massive fan following and this became one of the reasons that his drama, Khamoshi was a success and so was its OST!
Accompanying him in the song isSchumaila Hussain, whose soft voice manifested the sentimental loneliness reflected in the lyrics.
To this date, this track remains in the playlist of most fans with its bittersweet declaration of love, solitude, and separation.
Aangan
Singers: Farhan Saeed & Naveed Nashad
Composer: Naveed Nashad
When you think of great musical moments on television, it’s hard not to think of Aangan’s OST.
After all, we have told you this before and we will tell you this again, Aanagn’s soundtrack was as avant-garde as the story itself. Music was a huge part of this periodic blockbuster and it enhanced our overall drama experience.
A large team of musicians, helmed by the rockstar Farhan Saeed and the master of music compositions, Naveed Nashad, was roped in to make it the grand tune it is today,
No doubt, its exceptional composition has made it the ‘most expensive OST in Pakistan’s history’.
According to Naveed Nashad:
I wish my tunes have numerous musicians and a large orchestra. I have worked on Aangan’s OST and it is the most expensive OST in Pakistan’s history to date. As many as 60 musicians were involved in it.
Ehd e Wafa
Singers: Ali Zafar, Asim Azhar, Sahir Ali Bagga, and Aima Baig
Akin to its cast, the crème de la crème of Pakistan’s music industry united to give us the one-of-its-kind title tune for Ehd e Wafa.
An indelible musical tribute to friends far and wide, the song captures the awesome feeling of having a friend who loves you just the way you are.
Garnering more than 6 million views since its release four months ago, the drama’s OST carries on to reap love like its poignant story which has become an immense sensation in the country.
