The last 12 months have been great for Pakistan as not only has the country managed to attract tourists from abroad, they have made inroads in other countries due to their entertainment industry.
From celebrity engagements to marriages to winning awards, it was fun times to be in 2019. There were a few incidents that we would like to forget about as soon as possible, however, they will remain associated with the passing year.
Let’s take a trip down the memory lane and explore the Good, the Bad and the Ugly side of our entertainment industry, and find out who was on top and who wasn’t in the last year before 2020!
The Royal Visit Pakistan after a Long Time
Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, visited Pakistan and spent action-packed five days in the Northern Areas of the country. The royal couple visited the SOS village, National Cricket Academy and Badshahi Mosque besides travelling to Chitral and spending time with various charitable organizations.
According to CNN, Kate described the visit as “really special”, while William paid tribute to Pakistanis who had endured many sacrifices and “helped to build the country that we see today”.

Film and TV actor Ahad Raza Mir was on a roll in 2019; first, he got engaged to Sajal Aly in a simple ceremony and followed it by winning the Betty Mitchell Award for his performance in Canadian theatre play Hamlet, in the category of Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Drama.
Impressive, isn’t it? Add three dramas on Hum TV (Aangan, Ehd-e-Wafa and Yeh Dil Mera) and it caps the perfect year for the youngster.
And then there was Hamza Ali Abbasi
Actor Hamza Ali Abbasi also kept his fans busy throughout the year; first, he shocked everyone by announcing that he was getting married to Naimal Khawar and secondly, he quit the showbiz industry for religious purposes. Both the events in his life were covered in a big way, with Naimal Khawar becoming the country’s most searched Google personality for the year.

While Hamza Ali Abbasi was busy deciding his future, his Jawani Phir Nahi Ani costar Mehwish Hayat was busy making her fans proud. Not only did the actress receive Tamgha-e-Imtiaz on Pakistan Day for her outstanding performance, her speech in Norway in August was nothing short of remarkable.
She was awarded the Pride of Performance Award by Norway’s Prime Minister Erna Solberg and used the platform to urge Hollywood and Bollywood to use cinema for promoting mutual understanding and present the true image of Pakistan, not a fictional one where every Pakistan is a bad guy.
The Rise of Usman Mukhtar
He may have acted in a couple of Pakistani films but Usman Mukhtar found stardom on TV. The youngster from Islamabad acted in Anaa and had great onscreen chemistry with Naimal Khawar who went onto marry Hamza Ali Abbasi in real-life.

It was announced in the last week of December that Syra Shahroz and Shahroz Sabzwari were not living together anymore. Although Shahroz Sabzwari denied rumours of a divorce, he did confirm that they were living apart and reconciliation might be possible. Deewar-e-Shab’s Mohsin Abbas Haider also had to take a break from his acting and hosting duties as he and his now ex-wife accused each other of being unfaithful and inhuman. Mohsin’s wife claimed that her husband (now ex) was having an affair with an upcoming model and he used to beat her despite her bearing two children from him. Mohsin, on the other hand, claimed that he was not living with his wife for some time and things were always heading towards a divorce.
Firdous Jamal On Mahira Khan, Imran Ashraf
Veteran actor Firdous Jamal was in the news not once but twice and on both occasions, he was found criticizing successful actors. While his comments on Mahira Khan (calling her aged) met with backlash on the social media, his views on Imran Ashraf’s Bhola in Ranjha Ranjha Kardi were uncalled for.
Neither Mahira Khan nor Imran Ashraf responded to the legendary actor’s comments; in fact, Imran Ashraf was quoted as saying that he respected Firdous sahib for he has been a great servant of Pakistan Television and must have a good reason in criticizing his performance.
Hamza Firdous leaves Pakistan For Ireland
Firdous Jamal’s son Hamza Firdous who took the screen by storm with his powerful role in O Rangreza decided to leave the country and return to Ireland. The actor claimed that producers in Pakistan weren’t professional enough to work with and he ‘will work internationally, not here.’ Fans were saddened to see Hamza Firdous go like that because he made a name for himself during a short span of time.
