My pairing with Hira is beyond being lucky: Junaid Khan

In his roller coaster ride as a star, Junaid Khan has come a long way. He has an aura of nonchalance about him as he shares a glossy romance with stardom- both are made for each other!

The thespian has everything you want from a new-gen, A-list hero; passionate, talented and a positive moving force in the entertainment cosmos. His screen career is continuing to evolve as he bags project after project and staying committed to his craft!

Possibilities in this industry seem to be endless for him. Other than acting, his work in music only adds to his star appeal and now, he is all set to rock the big screen with his upcoming movie debut ‘Kahay Dil Jidhar’ across Mansha Pasha.

But there is an interminable bond he shares with television. There is a reason he is a popular face in dramas. Fans always welcome him on screen and directors take pleasure in casting him. After all, he harbors an inconspicuous presence on the showbiz firmament and it seems, he is happy in his space.

The hero is all set to make a fancy comeback on Hum TV with Danish Nawaz’s upcoming drama ‘Kashf’ and Khan has already made us excited for his character ‘Wajdaan’.

Though we will be seeing him in a lover-boy avatar, Kashf is not going to be a mainstream story as per Junaid! The issue highlighted in it might appear sensitive to some, controversial to others and even taboo to the rest.

Pairing yet again across Hira Mani, the actor cum singer believes the drama being helmed by Danish Nawaz will be an eye-opener. Last year, the director brought ‘Khaas’ on our screen and it became a story that ignited imperative conversations on social media.

We caught up with Junaid for a candid chat in regards to ‘Kashf’ and working with his favorite squad of Danish and Hira! While we rolled out our questions, he had us floored with his humility and passion for what he does.

Read on to know what he revealed!

We are quite excited to see you and Hira paired up yet again! Do tell us something about Kashf and how it will be different from your past projects.

Junaid Khan: There is a huge difference in Kashf from my past projects as it is not a run-of-the-mill story. It revolves around the main, title character ‘Kashf’ and her struggles in life. However, her life issues are beyond the husband, saas and nand matters. There is an interesting topic that will be discussed in the drama and it is also a bit controversial. We are also very anxious in regards to the reaction of the audience upon its release.

However, it is a common issue that is prevalent in our masses that we have addressed. The details are secret and can be only revealed once the promos are out!

You have also changed your look for the drama. Was it a challenge donning the character of Wajdaan?

Junaid Khan: Of course! An artist always makes an effort to also change his look as per the character and if you have noticed the change then it means I have been successful.

My character is a man who is passionately in love with Kashf. They are cousins who live near-by and they both deeply love each other. However, their way of expression is very different.

Kashf expresses her love in an underlined way and her surrounding barriers also limit her to be open. But Wajdaan sees no barrier and he is eager to articulate his love with complete freedom. And he does it whenever he finds an opportunity. He is determined, emotional and takes his relationship with Kashf very seriously.

You have worked with Danish Nawaz in Ishq Tamasha, Sun Yara and now again in Kashf. What makes him so different from the other directors you have worked with?

Junaid Khan: I have worked with almost every director in this field. Some directors are star directors that work with prominent people and develop a name. Other directors are masters of their art, they are so dedicated and passionate about their scripts and characters that they can bring out the best in any story. Danish is one of these directors as he has command on his scripts and is enthusiastic about his work.

I remember in Ishq Tamasha and even in Kashf, whenever we were discussing the script, Danish has always been keen about how the story is pacing as per the script in the episodes. He is eager about all the elements, the music, and the things he wants to highlight- he stresses about every single thing so that the script raises its game to its ultimate level.

That’s how extraordinary Danish is. And he doesn’t just focus on the main protagonist of the drama. He pays attention to every character and their feel. Such directors are very less in our industry who are not necessarily star directors but they are so dedicated to their work that it shows. I always enjoy working with Danish and he has that intensity, a seriousness in him that makes working with him worth it!

Your pairing with Hira has become extremely popular. Do you think she is lucky for you or do you feel that you need a new face to become a power couple with?

Junaid Khan: My pairing with Hira is beyond being lucky. The reason we always work with each other is because we are so easy around each other. Hira is a very comfortable human being, with no tantrums and she is a grounded star. She is a family woman, a very dear friend and has a really good sense of humor. It is such a pleasure working on the set with her, it feels so good. And that’s why whenever I get a project with her, I always go for it. I love Hira as a human being, I love her whole family. Mani and the children are a unit and it’s a great feeling to be around them.

I have never thought in this field while working with people if I should work with them again or not or If I should just stick to just one pair if I am strong with them. I do it for the love of my work and the love of my expression, for the love of art. I want to be comfortable where I am, in the space I am, while challenging my abilities as an actor. So it doesn’t matter with whom I am working. I don’t care if I am not working around star actors or directors. I am around people who give me respect and in return, I give them respect.

Do you think Kashf will manage to create as much noise as Ishq Tamasha did?

Junaid Khan: I believe Kashf will create such an impact because it is based on such a topic that will jolt people. It is a harsh reality of our country that is not mostly explained and remains a taboo topic to a certain extent. The drama will be an interesting watch for the viewers.

And of course, the project includes Hira and Danish. It will be aired on Hum TV-the most watched and respected channel of the country. All these factors are bound to work. At the end of the day, the viewers will be the judge and I am hopeful that they will like the story.

Your silver screen debut is on its way. Are you anxious over its reception by the critics and the audience?

Junaid Khan: We are yet to lock the release date but it will be released this year only. Yes, I am anxious and excited as it will be my first silver screen appearance. People have asked me why I did the cinema so late. I was always cautious about it since the beginning that it should be the right team, the right script, and the character should be sound.

But I am glad I took my time because this script is worth it, the director Jalal Rumi has made his name in this field. The songs are great, the cast is good and I have a wonderful co-star, Mansha. Everything seems in the right place. Every step of the film is important. I am happy with what I have done.

However, there are still many factors ahead, including the editing, marketing, the distributor- these all elements also decide if the film is a winner on the box-office or not.

Other than your upcoming drama and movie, what is next for Junaid? Any surprises in store for fans in 2020?

Junaid Khan: There are many surprises and I can’t reveal them for it will no longer be a surprise then. But a lot will happen in the music front this year that my fans can look forward to!

I am the last person to have a temper. I might have an unwelcome expression on my face at times. But the people who know me are aware that I am a very calm and chill person.

  • Favorite drama on Hum TV

Ishq Tamasha- one of my favorites

  • Craziest fan story

I won’t call them crazy. I would appreciate them because an artist exists because of their fans. And all those fans who came to me and visit me in malls, restaurants, and other locations; I appreciate them a lot because it takes a lot of courage to visit your favorite star and talk to them. I am thankful to them all for showing so much love.
