Ramadan Special: We asked celebrities their favorite childhood memory from the Holy Month

Ramadan has dawned upon us, however, the celebrations for the Holy month are different from usual this year.

A typical Ramadan day in Pakistan was all about praying Taraweeh, enjoying Iftar parties, eating out for Sehri, and of course, shopping our heart out for Eid! With the Corona Virus pandemic taking over the world, things have changed this time around as large gatherings have been put on hold.

The hustle and the bustle in the country are amiss, making us nostalgic for all those times our cities were bright and bubbling with the happiness of the Holy month. After all, it is everyone’s favorite time of the year, bringing families and friends together while providing us an opportunity to reflect on our spirituality.

We asked Pakistani celebrities some of their favorite childhood memories from the month of Ramadan and what they miss the most from the blessed days. Some of their replies will make you take a trip down a memory lane yourself. Rest is bound to make you laugh.

Imran Ashraf

My most beautiful childhood memory in regards to Ramadan is ‘Chirri Roza’.

I was very stubborn when I was 5-6 years old that I want to fast and constantly repeat it. So my mother came out with a solution and told me that you can keep ‘Chirri Roza’. It was that fast that we used to break after coming from school at noon and it was hilarious.

Hira Mani

My favorite childhood memory from the Holy month is making fruit chaat and sherbet.

I was responsible in my household for making these items for the Iftar table and I used to love doing it for my family. Miss those times!

I am hoping for the best that this Corona outbreak vanishes after Ramadan Inshaa Allah.

My best Ramadan memory as a child is having the yummy Doodh Soda every day. And the best part is that the tradition continues and I still do it every year.

I would like to share this fun anecdote of a ‘Chirri roza’ (bird roza) with you guys. I wanted to fast at a very young age and my mum wouldn’t let me because she knew it I was too young. I used to insist a lot that I want to fast so one day I surprised her and said I won’t eat anything because I am fasting. So mum showed me a bird saying ‘look the bird is eating, its fast has broken, so you can eat”.

So I ate looking at the bird. So for the next four days, she made me eat saying the bird is eating too. I used to ask others why your bird doesn’t come and you guys eat without it. I miss my mom a lot.

Hiba Bukhari

My favorite childhood memory from Ramadan is the time we all family members used to cook Sehri-Iftar together and then eat together.

My father used to make delicious pakoras and I cherish those memories now. Wishing you all a very happy Ramadan.

Arez Ahmed

My two sisters live abroad and my brother is also in the army. So we all relatively meet very less with each other. A couple of years back, it was the first-ever Ramadan when we spent some of the last days of the month together.

Those moments were priceless. We used to have Iftar and Sehri together. When you eat collectively, you realize how important your family is. When we all used to pray before Iftar together, it was a comfort that all of the family members sitting on the table are praying for one another.
