Amidst social distancing, it has become imperative that we identify ways to maintain our mental well-being. We may feel powerless, irritated and exasperated over what will happen next. However, it is equally crucial that we do not let the uncertainty catastrophize our thoughts.

With the novel Corona Virus wreaking havoc all over the country, our celebrities are playing their part to engage the citizens, sending love and pumping them up with positivity.

Yasir Hussain

The social media updates of Mr. and Mrs. Yasir Hussain prove that the couple is making the most of the lockdown. So what is the secret behind their inspiring attitude? Here’s what Yasir has to say:

Advice on controlling anxiety during self-isolation:

Stop watching the news! What you know about the novel Corona Virus is enough. It is a dangerous disease and is contagious. Pay attention to the precautions conveyed by the government and practice self-isolation. Stay away from the new researches and fake tips that are going viral. Your mental health will remain sane.

One major change in your routine that you’ll continue when the quarantine is over:

I feel there hasn’t been a drastic change in my life. I always used to prefer staying home and even these days I am at home. I used to cook before as well and I am also cooking nowadays. I used to keep myself busy in gardening and plantation. So doing the same while at home.

Hira Mani

After her trip to U.S.A and practicing self-isolation, Hira Mani is up and about, helping the needy during the pandemic. Here’s what she is doing to deal with her anxiety:

Advice on controlling anxiety during self-isolation:

In regards to a clinical condition when it comes to mental health, get yourself checked by a doctor. However, to relieve yourself of anxiety in the COVID-19 crisis, recite Namaz and Surah Baqarah’s last ayahs- they are very beautiful. I listened to them today and often listen to them. Even, I was feeling very tensed and then I listened to those ayahs.

Regardless of whatever religion you belong to, get close to your religion. This time is to learn and be optimistic. Don’t let the devil pollute your mind with negative thoughts. Indulge your heart in productive activities. Clean the house, give time to your husband and children, and cook for your family. Work with passion!

I have also learned the importance of maintaining hygiene in these times. Spread love and control your anger for being in self-isolation can trigger irritation and cause fights.

One major change in your routine that you’ll continue when the quarantine is over:

I have gone through an immense change in my routine. Earlier, I use to wake up and check what my children are eating. I used to make breakfast for them.

But now, I have gotten into a habit of checking on the status of ration given to families and ensure their children are not empty-stomach. I maintain the number of ration bags, how much has been donated and how many families are still left to be sent ration.

This is a huge change in my lifestyle. First, I used to care for my own family and now I am also concerned for so many more.

Sami Khan

Our hero is always involved in the back-to-back shooting of dramas and was recently gearing up for his upcoming Hum TV drama ‘Joog’. So how is he coping being isolated at home, we found out!

Advice on controlling anxiety during self-isolation:

The first and most important thing is being positive. Spend time with your family. And above all spread positivity. Help others because it will make you a good human who believes in positivity. Try to do some exercise, even a 30-minute walk will help you ease stress and anxiety.

One major change in your routine that you’ll continue when the quarantine is over:

The best thing is to get a check on your inner self and try to connect with Allah. Offer prayers and read the best book of the universe, the Quran. Don’t just recite in Arabic, read and try to understand with translation as well. I will try to continue it more frequently Inshaa Allah.

Advice on controlling anxiety during self-isolation:

I believe there are solutions to almost all our problems, only if we quit being lazy. For me maintaining a balanced routine and adopting a healthy lifestyle has a massive impact on our mental health and it can help us battle anxiety and depression in less than a week. Eat healthy food, get proper sleep at night, wake up on time, keep yourself active and also find yourself a productive hobby. It does wonders.

One major change in your routine that you’ll continue when the quarantine is over:

I try to stay away from all the gadgets and spend all that time either with the family or myself. Things like oiling, skincare routine, that I never bothered doing before have finally become a part of my life and hopefully, I’ll continue doing it.

And we read… “Back in Anatolia, Nalan has seen at close hand how falcons would perch on their captor’s shoulders, obediently waiting for the next treat or command. The falconer’s whistle, the call that ended freedom. She had also observed how a hood would be put on these noble raptors to make sure they would not panic. Seeing was knowing, and knowing was frightening. Every falconer knew that the less it saw the calmer the bird. But underneath that hood where there were no directions, and the sky and the land melted into a swathe or black linen, though comforted, the falcon would still feel nervous, as if in preparation for a blow that could come at any moment. Years later now, it seemed to Nalan that religion-and power and money and ideology and politics- acted like a hood too. All these superstitions and predictions and beliefs deprived human beings of sight, keeping them under control, but deep within weakening their self-esteem to such a point that they now feared anything, everything.” ~10 minutes 38 seconds in this Strange World- Elif Shafak #quarantine #quarantinelife #thistooshallpass #blessed #hajra #hajrayaminn

Advice on controlling anxiety during self-isolation:

This isolation period is a good opportunity to sit down with your thoughts and try to identify what is the problem or issue that is making you anxious or identify the problem areas. There are also some really good online therapy and consultancies that can be helpful in this area. Remember that seeking professional help speeds up the process.

One major change in your routine that you’ll continue when the quarantine is over:

I will take a day out of every week to dedicate it to myself completely.

Nazish Jehangir

The rising star is all set to make an appearance in Sami Khan’s Joog and recently took a mini-break from social media to work on her mental well-being. We asked Nazish how she is taking care of herself in self-isolation. Here’s what she had to say!

Advice on controlling anxiety during self-isolation:

We must learn the art of patience in this quarantine time. We need to have a firm belief in our God that this is just a little ordeal for us and soon things will be better because, after every night, we do see a bright morning sun as well. I believe in signs and omens.

I think Allah has put us in this situation so that we can strengthen our bonds with our family members. Stay indoors and sharpen our skills. I have always spoken very openly about my mental health struggles.

One major change in your routine that you’ll continue when the quarantine is over:

As I can’t go to my home town Islamabad so I do get a bit anxious but I am working on it. I am praying 5 times a day, reciting the Holy Quran and its working wonders for me. I go for walks on my roof. I am doing yoga too. So I would suggest others to do the same too.

The major change that I have witnessed in my routine is that I have become very punctual in my 5 times prayers and recitation of the Holy Quran. I have always been a very spiritual person but since I am in quarantine, I feel I have become the closest with my Allah. What more one could have asked for? All my life I have been taught to find positive out of any situation. So I talked on my Instagram that this isn’t so bad maybe Allah wanted us to sit back and reflect on what we have done so far.

Azekah Daniel

Like the rest, Azekah has some productive advice to share with her fans in time of the massive upheaval. Going to try these activities out for sure!

Advice on controlling anxiety during self-isolation:

Mental health cannot be overlooked during this period. We must keep ourselves busy in some way or the other.  Engage ourselves with things that we love doing but never had the time to.

We can do creative things like painting or sketching, we can focus on health more by working out at home, and there are several workout videos available on YouTube, cook healthy meals. Prayer and meditation are also very helpful, it eases our mind, body, and soul. Anxiety and depression can be dealt with this way.

One major change in your routine that you’ll continue when the quarantine is over:

I like starting my day with counting my blessings and journaling them down followed by a high-intensity workout and some weight training. I can see positive changes in myself and I would make this a part of my daily routine after this quarantine.
