Very few mothers can raise a family so bravely and positively as the abandoned Raafia did in Zindagi Gulzar Hai. While her cynical husband left her to marry a second wife due to her inability to bring a son into the world, Kashaf’s mother brought up her three daughters all on her own with her unwavering strength.
She inspires boundless confidence that no matter what the circumstances are there is still hope that life will change for better. And later it did for Rafia!

She earned her reward for her life struggles as a result of three successful and strong grown-up girls who made her proud in every walk of life. Rafia’s character imparted the message that kindness and softness goes a long way. It helps to build a home full of love and comfort despite the indefinite crisis in life.
Sajda in Udaari played by Samiya Mumtaz
Intuitive, high-spirited, and every inch fierce, Sajda in Udaari symbolized that one should never underestimate a mother for her gentleness and vulnerability. Her character was like that of a mother bird who will spread its wings to shelter her child and claw your eyes out if you even think of harming her baby.
There were many times in the story Sajda felt alone and exhausted, even confused. However, to protect Zebo from the pedophile Imtiaz, she was ready to kill and take revenge for the pain he inflicted upon her daughter.
Later, she starts her own business and gives Zebo the fortification of a father. She was protective and possessive towards her daughter, who meant the world to her. Only a tough tiger mom could have raised a strong lioness like Zebo, who fought for her right and showed the world that she is not a victim, but a survivor!
Durr e Shahwar in Durr e Shahwar played by Sanam Baloch/Samina Peerzada
By drawing a parallel between two generations, Durr e Shahwar’s storyline showed how a modern-age career-centric mother can draw a balance between her personal and professional life.
After marriage, Durr e Shahwar went through challenging times to adjust to her new home. She was young, innocent, and even naïve to some extent. However, as a mother, she ensured that none of her life struggles affects her daughter, Shandana. She concealed her unhappiness and the unease in her soul to raise a happy, young girl.
With patience and compromise, Durr e Shahwar eventually got what she wanted in life- the peace and love she always craved for. So much so, years later her daughter was envious that Durr e Shahwar was always blessed with a loving husband.
Consequently, she set an example for Shandana that how one can weave a blissful marital life. Durr e Shahwar taught her daughter that it might not be a piece of cake but it requires relentless affection, tolerance, and passion to excel both as a homemaker and a career woman.
Faryal in Ehd e Wafa played by Vaneeza Ahmad
Faryal is that one uber-cool mom every child craves to have in his or her life. She is a confident, inspiring woman and compels her son to achieve the best in life.
She radiates such love and warmth that any child will be lucky to have her as a mother. Faryal has powerful motherly instincts and knows how to win the trust of her kid. She remained more of a friend rather than a strict Ammi to Saad.
Like all moms, she is emotional too for her son! But she always manages to compose herself with the reminder that she is a soldier’s mama and likewise, she has to be rough and tough.
The scene where Saad reminds her mother that a soldier is thriving inside her too made us move to tears. Indeed, every mother is brave and doing a great job, even when no one tells them so.
Speaking to Hum Spotlight in an earlier interview, Vaneeza revealed her experience of playing the character of Ahad’s mother:
It did help to be a mother because if I didn’t have kids, I might not have been able to act like the mother I portray on the screen. I have known Ahad for a long time now and the way I reacted to him on screen is the same way I would react to my children.
I had to hold back myself in front of the camera because that mother is a little restraint while this lady (pointing to herself) is a very touchy-feely kind of mother. I love hugging and kissing my kids and they might not like it but I love it. I would have been affectionate with Ahad too but since it was national TV, I controlled myself.
Mansoora in Pyar Ke Sadqay played by Atiqa Odho
Though she appears gullible and easy to fool, Mansoora is a soft, sweet soul who adores her son Abdullah to death.
She knows his weakness and his lack of confidence. Thus, she showers him with love and attention likewise. Mansoora is smart and only strikes when the iron is hot. It seems like she wants to make Sarwar think he is in command, while she is observing everything and ensuring the well-being of her children like a boss-woman.
There are moments where she feels lost, but deep down she knows what she must do to save her home. The scene where Mansoora allows her son to take over the office seat he deserves shows the epic bond she shares with Abdullah.
We are yet to see more of her motherly avatar in the on-going drama. However, a hunch tells us that she is going to strike back towards Sarwar soon and he will not see this blow hitting him hard!
