With Ye Dil Mera completing its run and winning hearts all over the world, one thing that played the role of an unsung hero was the drama’s Official Sound Track.
Yes, the one that kick-started each episode and transported the audience back in the past when life was lived, when people were loved and romance was in the air 24 x 7.
The OST was composed and sung by Shiraz Uppal and won a lot of praise, and before we talk about it, let’s listen to it, once again.
Behind every successful OST, there is an equal and mysterious story. And Shiraz Uppal reveals the mystery behind the song, revealing statements that are as shocking as the drama’s climax. So if you want to be surprised with twists in the tale, read along and you will find out all there is to know about the OST that won our hearts.
Revelation # 1 – Ye Dil Mera OST wasn’t created for Ye Dil Mera!
According to Shiraz Uppal, he doesn’t do many OSTs because of his filmi work and commercial projects.
However, he had composed one particular song for the love of Jazz and hoped that one day, when a time-based or period film set in the 1960s was made in Pakistan, it would have this song in it. But sadly, no such film was produced or even considered during the last few years. That is until Momina Duraid decided to go back in time, on TV.
‘One fine day out-of-the-blue, Momina Duraid asked me whether I had a song that had elements of yesteryears and I was quite surprised because no one knew about such a song in my collection. I did share this song with her and she loved it so much that she took it for her (then) upcoming project. She was also sort of surprised that no one had picked the song that had all the ingredients of being popular. I had no idea what the name of the drama was until I saw Ahad Raza Mir and Sajal Aly in the picturesque Northern Areas on my TV screen. I was quite happy that my song anchored a drama that had a time-based storyline, and it fitted the situation perfectly. Not only did I watch the drama but I also loved the way it was treated, in a very different way. Just like I had incorporated elements of jazz from the 1960s and the 1970s in the song!’
Revelation # 2 – The complete version hasn’t been released yet!
‘People have been asking me about the release of the complete version of the Ye Dil Mera OST but I myself have no clue when it would be released. I hope that now the drama has ended, the HUM TV management will release it with a new montage that features memorable scenes from the drama so that it goes down history as a sort of both recap, and something to remember by’, says Shiraz.
Revelation # 3 – This is not the end of Shiraz Uppal’s association with HUM TV!
‘After the success of Ye Dil Mera OST, I have been approached by many to compose songs for their projects but I try to select my projects on the basis of the team, the story, and the creative freedom I receive from the producers. My next project is Patakh De for HUM Films and Momina and Duraid Films, who were behind hits like Superstar as recently as last year. I have composed the entire soundtrack for the film and when they complete shooting (hopefully soon), I will do the background score as well’ says the magic musician.
He further added, ‘Then I have also composed a couple of songs for Dum Mastam that is Adnan Siddiqui’s debut film as a producer. Ehteshamuddin is directing it and the songs Lurhak Jaye and Be Asar are my compositions that feature in the soundtrack. I have also done the title track of Wajahat Rauf’s upcoming flick Parde Mein Rehne Do which was on the floors before COVID put a stop to everything. And finally, there is Faheem Burney’s comeback venture Love London Sialkot where my son Haadi Ali Uppal has sung one song on the director’s insistence. I hope once this COVID 19 lets us resume our lives, the work will hopefully gain pace.’
