Here’s why we love to hate Miral Fareed!

There are good people, there are bad people and then there are those who are so good at being bad that no one loves them.

Actress Sarah Khan’s character in Sabaat falls in the latter category where she, as Miral Fareed, makes life difficult for her family, her husband, and all those surrounding her.

She might dress up like a Diva, but she cares about no one except herself and acts like a bully, and that’s what makes her our topic of discussion this week. After all, how many well-dressed bullies have you seen on TV, manipulating others and getting away with it?

Who Is Miral Fareed and why is she so hot-headed?

Miral Fareed is the eldest daughter of Seth Fareed (Moazzam Ali Khan) who wants his family to have everything without even asking for it. In the beginning, both Miral (Sarah Khan) and Hassan (Ameer Gillani) were spoilt rich kids who wanted everything to happen their way. That is until Hasan met Anaya (Mawra Hocane) who not only changed him as a person but also his idea about life.

Anaya made Hassan realizes that he should do something on his own and despite opposition from his family, he does. It was when he proposed to Anaya (they later got married) that Miral’s hopes came crashing down and she turned savage from a bully. She not only made her father talk to Anaya’s father in a condescending manner when they met, but she also uninvited herself from her brother’s wedding.

Her psychotic side was revealed when she set her brother’s room on fire on the day of his wedding and made her parents cancel the Valima. Even after her psychiatrist, Dr. Haris (Usman Mukhtar) fell in love with her, she tried to rule him like her father had taught her, making things difficult between them.

What makes Miral Fareed worth Discussing?

Usually, characters in Pakistani dramas are either black or white; Miral is somewhere in between. She thinks that whatever she is doing is right when in fact it is only right for her. She didn’t give a damn to what her grandmother used to say, doesn’t believe that her mother knows anything, and thinks that his brother is an immature kid, when in fact he is more mature than her.

She walks around with a Devil may care attitude, without realizing that the consequences of her actions will ultimately hit her hard. She is a strong woman who is moving in a different direction because she believes that wherever she is heading in the right way. Don’t be fooled with her stylish clothes, her expensive jewelry, and the cool cars she drives, she is a brat whose wings need to be clipped, and only then she can be considered normal.

Why does everyone hate Miral Fareed?

If you have a friend or a relative who would try to dominate you whenever you two met, who would manipulate others to fulfill her agenda, who was not only disobedient but used the ‘girl card’ when it came to parents, who didn’t know that she was mentally sick despite displaying all symptoms, was authoritative because of her status instead of experience and blackmailed her way from the bottom to top, what would you do to that person? Of course, you would stay away from such a person but there would be many who would give anything to use her ‘powers’ for their own benefits.

What Miral Fareed doesn’t realize in Sabaat is that Atif (Abbas Ashraf Awan) is using her to take revenge from Anaya for stealing away his rich friend Hasan, instead of the other way round; that her father is doing her no favors by taking her side unnecessarily and that a husband is someone to share your life with, not your servant no matter how rich you might be. And don’t get me started on her relationship with her mother (Leyla Zuberi) and grandmother (Azra Mansoor) – Miral didn’t listen to her mother once, whereas she considered her grandmother an old fool, and insulted her so much that she died of embarrassment as well as a heart attack after her final encounter with her granddaughter.

Is Miral The Character Different From Sarah Khan The Actress?

The Sarah Khan of Belapur Ki Dayan fame would never have been a choice for Miral, had she not been a good actress. Usually, the characters she has played over the years can be categorized as ‘damsel in distress’ kind of roles. There have been instances where she has played a woman who got married to a person who is the exact opposite of her ex or lost her man to another woman, but she hardly played the ‘other’ woman.

In Sabaat, she not just got to play someone who is irritating and conniving but also who is a dark spot on the existence of women around the world. She wants everything to happen as per her wishes, and if that doesn’t happen, she would go to any extent, even if it means hiring an assassin. To pull Miral off would have been easy for any other actress as they might have played such characters in their dramas, but the audience wouldn’t have loved it. They do love to hate her now after Sarah Khan did it, as she shocked everyone, but made them happy in a good way.

How Should Miral’s Story in Sabaat End?

Of course, her end should be as unhappy as her own existence. She ruined her brother Hassan’s life, destroyed the image of her sister-in-law Anaya, was directly responsible for the death of her grandmother and indirectly for the demise of Anaya’s father (Mohammad Ahmed), tried to control her husband who refused to be controlled and manipulated her father into making her the company’s bigwig so that she can play with her sibling’s life.

The only ending besides dying a horrible death possibly in a car crash that the audience is expecting is where she loses everything her father handed over to her and is saved from losing it mentally by the very people, she treated badly, except for the ones who are dead. Other conclusions would not fall in the ‘befitting’ category, because she made life hell for others, and deserves the same treatment!
