A warm welcome

The drama opens with Fariya (Rabab Hashim), gearing up to rush to her school where she is employed at. From the first scene only, it is evident that her nature is that of a soft, amiable young girl who loves her aunt (Seemi Pasha) and uncle (Waseem Abbas) to death. Calling them ‘Baray Abba’ and ‘Bari Ami’, Fariya harbors immense respect for them in her heart as her parents died in her childhood.

On the contrary, her Bari Ami is extremely tough and strict with her. After all, Fariya is not her daughter. And here we discover about her own haughty and snooty daughter, Maya (Sanam Jung). Unlike her cousin, she is pampered and spoilt. It is clear that her character is materialistic and she is someone who is not impressed easily. She has turned down good marriage proposals because she wants to marry a man who is wealthy and affluent.

Consequently, we see Maya breaking down in the episode as she finds that the guy she wanted to marry for a long time has settled down abroad with a foreigner.

But with fate something else planned for, she meets her old university friend, Salman (Ali Safina). The two carry the same vibe of being sharp, shrewd, and covetous. It is clear that Salman has his eyes on Maya and our heroine is enjoying his attention with full zeal.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, Ammar meets Maya as he pays a coincidental visit to her home to drop Fariya and her friend. In a filmy encounter, our hero loses his heart to Maya. He observes her from afar, watching her all smiles and lost in her world. However, she catches him gazing intently at her and instantly harbors a dislike for him in her heart.

Ammar has been shown as impulsive. He is unable to sleep the whole night, lost in Maya’s thoughts. So infatuated, the very next days he convinces his Nani (Sangeeta) to pay a visit to Maya’s parents and ask for her hand in marriage.

But Maya has other plans. She spends the day with Salman and rejects the idea of marrying Ammar. Amidst all the hullabaloo, we realize that Fariya is pressurized the most in the household. She is ridiculed by her Bari Ami for being close to her Taya, scolded for being a part of the whole Ammar incident, and even looked down upon for not getting attractive suitors. While she has nothing but good wishes for her cousin and aunt, they, in turn, give her nothing but bitterness.

What we loved about Qarar’s first episode

Union of an unconventional cast

Qarar has brought together all our favorite faces that we have been long wanting to see on Hum TV. Sanam Jung, who has been signing very few projects, is back after Main Na Janoo. But nothing is more welcoming than Muneeb Butt’s comeback on the channel as he last signed up Baandi with the network and made it amongst the best drama of its year. Rabab Hashim is also being seen after three years on Hum TV, that too in a compelling project. Mikaal Zulfikar, who was missing from the first episode, has too returned with aplomb after making us fall in love with him in Alif Allah Aur Insaan.

Together, the squad forms a cast that is avant-garde and boasts a well-adjusted equation with their co-stars so far.

Sanam Jung’s arrogant avatar

It was a huge relief to see Sanam in a diverse role of the snobbish Maya. It has been a long time since she played a role this supercilious and broke her tradition of playing the typical damsel-in-distress. In Main Na Janoo, she essayed the role of a suppressed and miserable daughter. This time, she is positioned in a role that is bold, vivacious, pompous, and cocky. We are loving her ‘nakhras’ as Maya. She has donned the role just perfectly, serving the light look and the smug expressions with style.

Ali Safina in a negative role

Often spotted humoring us all on television, Ali Safina has given the much-needed creepy touch to the character of Salman. He has a desi, traditional look with slick back hair, and a massive mustache since he has been shown as a ‘Zamindar’. He appeared a little similar to that of his styling in Suno Chanda but his character is poles apart. Salman has a disturbing persona and you can tell that he is nothing but all trouble. It is indeed commendable that Ali took up this role, leaving away the pattern of donning comedy roles and signing up something different for a change.

Rabab Hashim’s soft look & Muneeb Butt’s dashing panache

Perhaps Rabab has never looked as pretty as she appears as Fariya in Qarar. Her performance matches the requirement of her character; soft, sweet, and innocent. She has effortlessly portrayed herself as a person full of love. However, we are curious to know if her avatar has been designed as someone weak and vulnerable. We hope not! Despite her pleasant personality, we don’t want Fariya to submit to the pressure around her. It will be awesome to see her stand tall and fight for her right.

Hot and handsome as always, Muneeb Butt made us root for him as Ammar in the drama. The scene where he excitedly gets dressed to visit Maya’s home made us realize that his acting game is stronger than ever before. He is good-looking, acing his acting chops and multiplying his fandom with every passing drama.

We are extremely excited to see Mikaal in the upcoming episodes. The writer and the director didn’t want to give it all away in the first episode. There is a flavor of suspense in the story. So far, we have been introduced to the major characters in the tale but a lot of questions are still buzzing in our mind. How negative Maya’s role will be in the future? Will Muneeb’s obsession with Maya be any good for him? What is Mikaal’s role in our story?

Guess we will keep returning to Qarar every Sunday to follow-up on the plot. Fingers crossed for what is in store for us.
