Dil Tanha Tanha Review: An Unconventional Cast, Powerful Performances and an Unpredictable Plot

Directed by Ali Masood and written by Misbah Ali Syed, the drama stars Mohsin Abbas, Kiran Haq, Ali Ansari, Nazish Jahangir, and Syed Arez as the lead roles.

The plot reveals the toxic dynamics that thrive in a Pakistani household and how parents can make or break their children’s life. With seven episodes down, the story is gaining strength and is keeping us intrigued throughout.

Despite addressing some very common issues, DilTanhaTanha is unveiling an unpredictable plot. Let’s see what has happened this week in the drama and what we are expecting to happen next in the tale.

Of Love, Lies, and Deceit

The story primarily revolves around the entangled lives of Mirha (NazishJehangir), Adeel (Mohsin Abbas Haider), Tooba (Kiran Haq), and Asfand (Ali Ansari). But determined to ruin all of their fate is Adeel’s toxic mother (Fareeha Jabeen).

This week we witnessed the uproar that erupted after the news of Mirha and Asfand’s secret Nikkah finally breaks amongst all families.

Adeel’s mother is furious over how her daughter Maria (Michelle Mumtaz) was rejected by Asfand. Hell-bent to take revenge from Asfand and his family, she is ensuring that her daughter-in-law Tooba suffers the most in this process. The manipulative husband, Adeel is of course following his mother’s instructions and making Tooba a pawn to play with amidst all this mess.

However, Adeel’s ego is hurt the most that Mirha had snubbed him all this time due to Asfand. Now that she is all set to get married, he threatens her with surprise visits to her home and presages her that she better divorces Asfand for good.

Mirha is strong. She is empowered, smart, and knows how to tackle goons like Adeel. Keeping her stance strong, she boldly admonishes her wicked cousin and warns him to leave her alone.

Meanwhile, wedding preparations are in full swing at Mirha and Asfand’s home. Both the families are looking forward to this union, but Adeel’s mother is planning a scheme of her own.

Initially deciding not to attend the wedding, she changes her mind at the last moment. All hell breaks loose at the mayun ceremony when she accuses Asfand of leering at Maria in private. In reality, he was simply apologizing to Maria for being rude to her earlier.

But Adeel’s mother throws a mighty tantrum, ruining the occasion and blaming the groom-to-be for harassing her daughter. Later, she bullies Maria to keep her mouth shut and not to spill the beans that the entire incident is a lie.

However, Maria who clearly went through severe mental trauma due to her mother’s lethal behavior aims to commit suicide. Fortunately, doctors save her life. Nevertheless, Adeel and her mother remain unaffected. Still determined to destroy Asfand and Mirha’s marriage, they don’t have an inch of guilt that this whole plan has put Maria in jeopardy.

Nevertheless, Mirha and Asfand get married.

Tooba returns to her husband after the marriage ceremonies who kicks her out of the house in the middle of the night. Apparently, there is only one way she can save her marriage and that is to get his brother married to Maria.

Adeel has threatened her that she can only return to him if she succeeds in getting Mirha and Asfand separated and later getting his sister married to Asfand.

Powerful Performances in an Insightful Story

As we binge-watched DilTanhaTanha we realized one thing; the drama might have discussed an issue that is often highlighted in our stories, but the plot has been carved to ensure the suspense remains in the story.

It rightly exposes how the matter of marriage is blown out of proportion in desi households. Eventually, this sheer aggravation ends up destroying the lives involved in the process. Especially, women are pressurized a lot to compromise when it comes to their life partners and marry into a family that is not even the right match for them. We see how Tooba’s mother is constantly worried and embarrassed that her daughter is still single. Societal stress got the better of her, making matters only worse for Tooba.

On the contrary, the story also sheds light that how Adeel’s mother is too lost in her vengeance and is being a bad influence on her elder son. While she should teach him to respect his wife and fulfill his rights, she teaches him to bully Tooba and concocts plans to take revenge from Asfand.

All of these matters are portrayed perfectly on our screen via epic performances delivered by NazishJehangir, Moshin Abbas Haider, Ali Ansari and not to forget FareehaJabeen.

You can see Nazish at her best in the story, her potential is at her fullest as Mirha. She looks beautiful in all the scenes and you can see her acting chops at her finest when she fierce-fully confronts Adeel.

Mohsin Abbas Haider is making appearances in various projects after a long hiatus. And it seems his talent is now even better than before. He has aced essaying negative characters and he makes you want to punch Adeel right in the face for his mischievousness. The actor is a natural performer and is stealing all the possible spotlight in the drama.

Ali Ansari is equally compelling as the dandy and suave Asfand. He flaunts the right style, gives the right looks, and proves that he is total hero material. He is playing the role of the ardent lover, protective brother, and a wise son like a boss.

But perhaps it is the veteran FareehaJabeen who is the most prominent in the play due to her fierce and fiery performance. She is apt as the loud, shrewd, and cunning mother. Such characters are often seen on our screens but the experienced actress played it with much aplomb that you don’t get tired of watching her hostile avatar.

Now that Mirha and Asfand are married, we are excited to know what happens next in their lives. Mohsin Abbas Haider revealed in an earlier interview with Spotlight that Adeel will realize a spiritual path in his life ahead. Looking forward to the twists and turns DilTanhaTanha has in store for us.
