Mohabbat Tujhe Alvida
Singers: Sahir Ali Bagga & Afshan Fawad
Lyrics: Imran Raza
Why this OST is a hit: The drama had its fair share of critics and fans, but one thing everyone loved about Mohabbat Tujhe Alvida was its OST — its proof being that it was the most viewed and heard song of all this year!
With Sahir Ali Bagga & Afshan Fawad taking the place behind the mic, the hauntingly painful track rightly depicts the obsession of a soul drenched in love and the restlessness of a lover’s heart. Its lyrics are moving and vulnerable all at once, making the song an ineffable reminder that love is all about submission and devotion.
Pyar Ke Sadqay
Lyrics: Ali Moin
Singers: Ahmad Jahanzaib & Mahnoor Khan
Why this OST is a hit: The harmonium opening, the dramatic violin music, the peppy vibe, and cute, romantic lyrics make Pyar Ke Sadqay stand-out from all the OSTs from this list.
Its composition has an old-school touch that prompt you to break into a slow-waltz with your beloved. What’s more, who knew that the duet between Ahmed Jehanzib and Mahnoor Khan would be so epic and well-paralleled that it would warm up our soul.
The sweet and blissful finishing whistle marks a soft end to the track, concluding it on a chirpy note and bringing joy to the hearts of the listeners.
Sabaat
Lyrics: Kashif Anwar
Singer: Ali Sethi
Why this OST is a hit: Ali Sethi can never go wrong with a musical rendition and, hands down, no one could have sung a slow, peaceful track like Sabaat better than him. His voice melts like butter in your ear. Balancing both the high and low notes in the track, Sethi’s vocals make you ponder about the intricacies of life and things we need to tell our loved ones before it’s too late. After all, the lyrics of the track have a high emotional punch — thought-provoking and quite heartbreaking.
The OST has a classical yet contemporary feel. All credit goes to Naveed Nashad’s composition who continues to innovate, bringing diversity in all of his tunes.
Dil Ruba
Lyrics: Sabir Zafar
Singer: Nirmal Roy & Shani Arshad
Why this OST is a hit: Perhaps Dil Ruba’s OST is the dreamiest of all in the list.
The part of the track sung by Nirmal Roy is all about being a carefree bird enjoying its freedom. On the contrary, Shani Arshad’s segment of the OST is more of a lover’s complaint to his beloved about being heartless and a reckless devotee.
The soundtrack was composed keeping in mind Dil Ruba’s plot where the heroine, Sanam, is a frivolous partner toying with the hearts of so many men. Meanwhile, the boys who genuinely adored her got hurt in the process.
Consequently, there is a transition of lyrics, tune, and vibe in the OST. But Nirmal and Shani’s beautiful voices seamlessly create a blend of mood, making it one of the most viewed songs on the list.
Ehd e Wafa
Singer: Ali Zafar, Asim Azhar, Sahir Ali Bagga and Aima Baig
Lyrics: Imran Raza
Why this OST is a hit: Making rounds since 2019, Ehd e Wafa’s soundtrack remained even popular in 2020!
It’s been ages since we were blessed with an ‘ultimate Dosti’ song and Ehd-e-Wafa’s OST was no less than a sweet treat that friends of all time and ages are bound to love!
Like its ensemble cast, the squad of its title track’s singers is equally star-studded with Ali Zafar, Aima Baig, Asim Azhar, and Sahir Ali Bagga united for this stunning, lively tune.
The drama’s OST carries on to reap love like its poignant story which has become a hit in the country.
Mushk
Lyrics: Aehsun Talish
Singer: Ali Zafar
Why this OST is a hit: Like its name, the drama’s OST, crooned by Ali Zafar, has the power of spreading its musical fragrance everywhere. There is an intimacy of a sort in the masterpiece that leaves you spellbound, compelling you to put it on repeat. When the track ends and the spell breaks, you can’t help but marvel at its captivating composition and moving lyrics.
The team of Aehsun Talish, Naveed Nashad, and Ali Zafar succeeded in delivering something fresh and a melody, that appears a fusion of both eastern and western music. Talking about the song to Spotlight in an earlier interview, Ali Zafar revealed:
‘I was approached by the composer of the song Naveed Nashad to render his composition, which I liked. However, unlike in the pre-COVID-19 days, we couldn’t sit together and record it since I was in quarantine. So we did it through FaceTime which becomes a little difficult for the singer as I had to hear the instructions then press record stand in front of the mic and then he would have to hear it through the phone audio and express his satisfaction on the kind of expression etc. he wanted, and I had to listen, sing and record me which can be quite technical. Since the creation is of the composer, one must deliver to what he has in mind if not better. But I am glad that he and people, in general, are loving it.’
