Actors who kept delivering hits throughout 2020

Although 2020 was not a good year for the cinema industry, HUM TV unleashed one quality drama after another, retaining its place at the top with electrifying content. Let’s take a look at those actors who kept raising the bar for HUM TV and featured in either multiple dramas, or dramas that had a huge impact on multiple kinds of audiences. Read on: How HUM TV kept the viewers busy in 2020

Ahad Raza Mir – Saad Faraz in Ehd e Wafa, Aman Ullah Khan in Yeh Dil Mera

Although Ahad Raza Mir didn’t do a new play on HUM TV, he dominated our screens as Captain Saad in Ehd-e-Wafa and as Aman Ullah Khan in Yeh Dil MeraNot only did he get to romance the hottest sensation Alizeh Shah, but also shared the screen with Sajal Aly, the now Mrs. Ahad Raza Mir. People loved his character in Ehd-e-Wafa and hated him in Yeh Dil Mera because they were both running simultaneously in the first half of 2020. His fans can wait to see him in another drama soon, although his Dhoop Ki Deewar is all set for a release on an OTT platform.

Sami Khan – Asfand Yar in Saraab, Mikaal in Dulhan

He might have been gone from the HUM TV screen after doing Inkaar and Ishq Zahe Naseeb in 2019, but he made a calculated comeback to a smaller screen with Saraab and Dulhan. His fans started comparing his caring Asfand Yar in the former with all the ‘heroes’ that have dominated the screen recently, while the illusion one kept the audience confused by giving negative vibes. Add to that his other drama Dulhan where he played a guy who leaves his lawfully wedded wife for his friend so that he can drive his car, even before consuming his marriage. As karma would have it, that girl gets a job in the boutique run by Mikaal’s mom, and his fiancée (Mashal Khan) starts getting suspicious. Oh, and the friend is also his fiancée’s brother (Faizan Khawaja).

Junaid Khan – Wajdaan in Kashf

Usually Rock stars-turned-actors in Pakistan don’t succeed as actors but Junaid Khan remains one of the few who are good at both. In Kashfhe had a tricky character where he was in love with a girl could foresee the future but since she (Hira Mani) who was sort of minting money for her family, they didn’t want her to get married, ever. The play had a tragic end with Wajdaan going mad and his lady love dying in her namaaz, but the audience loved their chemistry which is also visible in the ongoing Mohabbatein Chahatein.

Ahmed Ali Akbar/Osman Khalid Butt – Sheheryar Afzal/Malik Shahzain in Ehd e Wafa

Although Ahad Raza Mir’s Saad Faraz led the cast in Ehd e Wafa, his two other friends Sheheryar Afzal and Malik Shahzain weren’t far behind. For the first time in a drama, everyone was a hero, with Wahaj Ali’s Shariq Habib being the fourth one. However, the scene where Ahmed Ali Akbar reunited with his Warden Firdous (Sajeeruddin Khalifa), rescues his son Khursheed (Mohammad Hunbal) and then threatens the person who was behind the illegal capture of the plot must have helped his fans who voted him the Best Film Actor – Viewers’ Choice (for Laal Kabootar) at the Lux Style Award 2020.

Similarly, Osman Khalid Butt’s Malik Shahzain was shown as the rotten apple from the group, and kept angering his friends until one of them caught a lie that could have ruined his political career. In pure CSI style, Ahmed Ali Akbar did the sleuthing and after he was cornered, he went back and apologized to all his friends and the scene where he reconciles with Ahad Raza Mir was one of the most memorable ones of the year.

Bilal Abbas – Abdullah in Pyar Ke Sadqay

After O Rangreza in 2017, Bilal Abbas was gone from the very TV channel that launched his career in 2016; however, he couldn’t stay away from their screen and made a sensational return as Abdullah in Pyar Ke Sadqay where he romanced both Yumna Zaidi and Yashma Gill and was tortured literally by his stepfather (Omair Rana, who else!). His performance as a youngster who has no self-confidence when he married another slow-started Mehjabeen (Yumna Zaidi) and became a man who realizes his stepfather’s intentions will be remembered for a long time. He also appeared in an OTT show Ek Jhooti Love Story where his onscreen sister from PSK (Srha Asgr) once again played his sibling.

Imran Ashraf – Adam in Mushk

He can write, he can act and he can do both at the same time, without even making the audience notice that he has done both. Fresh from winning the ‘Best Actor- Viewers’ Choice Award at the Lux Style Award 2020’, Imran Ashraf’s voting was greatly affected by his on-going drama Mushk, also on HUM TV, which he has written, and acted in. His character is as different as chalk and cheese from Bhola and Rehan Chaudhry in Ranjha Ranjha Kardi and Inkaar, and that’s why he managed to win his first-ever award for Best Actor for the former in his illustrious career. As for Adam, he remains the daddy of all heroes on our TV!

Mohib Mirza – Sabeeh in Dil Ruba

Although he wasn’t the main protagonist in the play, the viewers kept rooting for Mohib Mirza and were ecstatic when he finally got the girl (Hania Aamir). He was not just the most dutiful son in the play, he didn’t tell anyone about his heartbreak until it was discovered by his younger brother (Nabeel Zuberi). He cared about his nephew but since he was rejected twice by her cousin Sanam, he went abroad and only came back to save her when everything was in a wreck. The way he spoke, the extremely well-mannered his Sabeeh was, earns him a place in our year-ender!
