Actresses who kept delivering hits throughout 2020

Although 2020 was not a good year for the cinema industry, it was good, better, and best for HUM TV who unleashed one quality drama after another and retaining its place at the top with electrifying content. Let’s take a look at those actors who kept raising the bar for HUM TV, and featured in either multiple dramas, or dramas that had a huge impact on multiple kinds of audiences. Read on: How HUM TV kept the viewers busy in 2020

Sonya Hussyn – Hoorain in Saraab

It was the year of Sonya Hussyn on HUM TV who delivered her best performance in Saraabas the protagonist who suffered from schizophrenia, she played the role that might get her every award for 2020. Not only did she spend time with schizophrenic patients to observe them before accepting the role, she made it so believable that the viewers forget that she was an actress playing the character. Her other play Mohabbat Tujhe Alvida also kept the audience engaged although it wasn’t in the league of Saraab. Frankly, nothing is!

Sajal Aly – Noor ul Ain in Yeh Dil Mera

To make Yeh Dil Mera memorable, every actor in the play had to look the part and Sajal Aly excelled as Noor ul Ain, the bone of contention between her father (Adnan Siddiqui) and husband (Ahad Raza Mir). She played a girl who had nightmares, yet when she spoke to her beau, she slept well. However, when that beau turns out to have a different agenda, things happen at a fast-paced, and Sajal Aly’s performance kept the audience engrossed as to what will happen next.

Alizeh Shah – Dr. Dua in Ehd e Wafa

When the viewers saw Alizeh Shah opposite Ahad Raza Mir in Ehd-e-Wafa, they thought that they didn’t look good together. However, by the time the drama was in its middle-stage, the same people wanted to see them more together. As Captain Dr. Dua, she looked like a doctor in every way who stood for her mother after her father died, who kept delivering her job even when the patient was her own hubby and who was the perfect wife anyone could have wanted.

Yumna Zaidi – Mehjabeen in Pyar Ke Sadqay

Who can forget Yumna Zaidi’s haunting performance in Ishq Zahe Naseeb in 2019; she upped the game in 2020 with Pyar Ke Sadqay where she played a clueless girl who somehow got married, and became the daughter in law of the very person who was interested in marrying her. Her ability to complicate simple matters and then create problems from nowhere was one of the many reasons people kept watching the play, with Bilal Abbas being the other reason.

Hania Aamir – Sanam in Dil Ruba

Dil Ruba was one of the few dramas in 2020 that explained the issues a good looking girl has to face in our society. The wedding photographer wants to make her his muse, the nearby shopkeeper wants to marry her, while her own cousin is also interested in her because he likes her carefree attitude. However, she gets married to another cousin, who dies in a car accident after confronting the photographer and the elder brother leaves for abroad as he is unable to handle all this. Hania Aamir’s transition from a normal college going girl to a newly-married widow to a young mother who gets married again for the sake of her child proves her versatility, in just one drama.

Urwa Hocane – Guddi in Mushk

Urwa Hocane plays a manipulative con woman in Mushk where her Guddi wants everyone else to suffer at her expense. She advises her mistress’ daughter to run away to get back to her mother, helps her father stand up on his feet so he can take revenge from her and when she realizes that Adam is no more interested in Mehek, decides to go for him so that her life gets set. She was surely being missed on TV and couldn’t have chosen a better play than Mushk to stage a comeback.

Mawra Hocane – Anaya in Sabaat

The younger Hocane sister Mawra was at her best in Sabaat where she played the character of a girl who knew that standing for what’s right was the best way forward. How he transforms his colleague into a humble person, marries him and then stand by him when he leaves his parents’ house shows that behind every successful person, there is a strong woman. Her chemistry with her father (Mohammad Ahmed) was cute and the scene where he dies was one of the most teary-eyed moments of the year.

Sarah Khan – Miraal in Sabaat

And then there was Miraal; Sarah Khan played the rich brat to perfection who doesn’t want anything to happen without her consent. If her grandmother asks her to apologize to her brother, she would say no even if it means sending her to her grave; if her brother wanted to marry his colleague, she would ask her fiancé to find a target killer, and when things were going against her in every way, she would slap, set fire and do everything in her power to get it back in her favor. Sarah Khan, who used to do mostly romantic roles before this one graduated from a normal actress to an extraordinary one through Sabaat and she must thank 2020 for that!
