Which Ehd-e-Wafa friend are you?

Ehd-e-Wafa has ended on a positive note with no one dying at the climax for a change.

On one hand, it entertained the audience for over six months while on the other, it showed the journey of four friends who ended up doing well for themselves.

This tale of friendship had many shades, from white to grey to white again, and the reason why the audience managed to resonate with the characters was that they could relate to either one or all of them.

Let’s analyze the journey of all four friends and find out which one was closest to you:

CAPTAIN SAAD (AHAD RAZA MIR)

Ahad Raza Mir’s Saad was the hero of the drama, the main protagonist. He was the one who came from a privileged background and could have done anything, yet he chose to join the army and follow his father’s footsteps.

Despite being blacklisted by the family of the girl he wanted to marry, he decided to give his all to his profession and then ask for her hand in marriage, which is exactly how a sane person should behave. Despite fighting with his friends, he ended up calling them when one of them was hurt and had he not made it in the finale, his final words to his friends were I Love You, which is exactly what we should tell our friends.

VERDICT: It is hard to be Saad because he is not just an ideal son, but also an ideal boyfriend turned husband, a dear friend and above all, an ideal soldier. You can relate to him only if you are ideal in any of the three departments – family, friend or profession. Good luck trying!

SHEHERYAR AFZAL (AHMED ALI AKBAR)

His father was a bandmaster, his mother a housewife and no one in his immediate family was a government officer. That’s what made Sheheryar Afzal do things that none of us would do – he replaced his father in his band when he was sick despite being a topper in the board exams, he chose to settle down first before opting for a marriage with his beautiful cousin who was interested in him, his decision to keep his appointment as District Commissioner secret till it was finalized is how one should go about it.

Despite succeeding in life, he kept his head down and helped his friends, family, and mentors whenever he could, and even when he found out that Shahzain had lied about the shooting incident, he chose to handle it like a friend, without making a scene.

VERDICT: Ahmed Ali Akbar’s character bloomed later in the play but when it did, it even outshone Saad. His advice to a street musician at his welcome party summed up his character and if you can rise from nothing and still not forget your roots, then you can relate to him easily.

MALIK SHAHZAIN (OSMAN KHALID BUTT)

Everyone hated Shahzain when he tried to marry Dua, who eventually becomes his bhabhi; he was loathed when it was revealed that he himself was behind the shooting, yet he wasn’t a bad guy. His heart was always in the right place as it was he who wanted Dua to know Saad, and his decision to create a scene before elections were to get rid of his rival who wasn’t suited for the position.

He spent most of the time on the dark side but when he did a crossover, he did that for good and made an impression that was hard to forget. His last episode speech on Indian TV was too good, even though if the Arnab Goswami lookalike wasn’t.

VERDICT: Shahzain is shown to be a loser at first who wants to have everything at all cost, but transforms after marriage and changes over a new leaf after his friend finds out his fraudulent activities. If you are black and white in real life, with more black and less white, and your heart is in the right place, then you can relate to Shahzain.

SHARIQ HABIB (WAHAJ ALI)

Wahaj Ali’s Shariq Habib had the most difficult life among all friends – his father passed away when he was young, his sister was the sole breadwinner of the family and he had a passion for journalism which wasn’t as clean as it seemed. Yet Shariq went onto become a national sensation as a TV host who didn’t compromise on his principles.

He made peace with his brother-in-law (which wasn’t easy as he slapped him hard), he apologized to his sister after she beat the hell out of him twice, he ensured that he never let corrupt people dictate him and that’s why he was trending at number two in the final episode – the first being Saad, of course!

VERDICT: Every group has a friend who wants to do the right thing and the SSG had Shariq; you could relate to him, if you are from a humble background, love your family and have goals that can be as tall as Mount Everest.

CAPTAIN GULZAR (ADNAN SAMAD KHAN)

And then there was Gulzar, who may have been late to the party but was in no way less than the original four friends. He was always cracking jokes to hide his own weaknesses such as his village background, his inability to converse in English, his lack of confidence and above all, his non-army background.

However, by the end of the serial, he was the one who was adored the most by the audience, because not only did he who find Saad unconscious after the gunfight, he was the first to reach the hospital, took care of his roommate like his own brother and made Saad promise that he would come back and dance at his wedding when he was sending his friend into the warzone.

VERDICT: If you like to crack jokes all the time, love your friends more than your family and have gone from someone with no confidence to a successful person, then you can relate to Gulzar the most.
