Pakistani sports fans are super passionate.
They get wild about their wins, can analyse matches better than most sports commentators, and take every loss as a personal defeat. A flip side to this passion, however, is the extent to which they can express their intense investment – especially in the cricketing world.
Times have been tough for the Pakistan cricket team in the 2019 World Cup: after a single meaningful victory against England, the team’s good fortune took a turn for the worst.
A terrible loss against India on June 16, left the national cricket team berated, abused and completely downtrodden. The usual match analyses were replaced by insults and bullying directed at the team, their incompetence, their fitness and at captain Sarfaraz Ahmed. A Pakistani fan even filed a petition in the Gujranwala Civil Court against the cricket team, seeking a ban on the entire squad.
However, this chain of ongoing backlash has turned into harassment for the cricketers, especially for the captain. Sarfaraz Ahmed, accompanied by his son, was insulted in person by an upset fan at a mall in England, after he obliged to his request for a photo.
Now this is disgraceful! Two years back you were celebrating and dancing on the roads because of them #ct17 and today you are treating them like this. You may comment on their performance and fitness but this is not the way! #CWC19 #PAKvSA #WeHaveWeWill pic.twitter.com/8Ney8VSlSU

After the video went viral on social media, fans and celebrities around the world, including those from India extended their support for the Pakistani captain.
The reaction from Pakistani sports fans was so extreme, the entire cricketing world, fought back against the tirade of horrible bullying. #IStandWithSarfaraz started trending across Pakistan for hours as Pakistanis, professional cricketers and celebrities defended the cricket team against the wave of abuse and harassment.
Every captain in history has lost an important match. #SarfarazAhmed doesn’t deserve this. This is harassment… for heaven’s sake he is with his child. https://t.co/JU8YFKMPyg

"If I were #SarfarazAhmed I'd have broken the boy's phone and called his family over," @wasimakramlive shares with @faizanlakhani his disappointment at fans' abusive behaviour towards players during #WorldCup2019 pic.twitter.com/M3BBxNZEgi

You’re not gutsy you’re basically a nobody, a Troll!
In fact, you should thank #SarfarazAhmed for giving you the 2 minutes of fame with such grace.
No matter what they do at the game no one has any right to attack them like this.
Praying for you always & forever#TeamGreen

Pakistan’s head coach Mickey Arthur felt the defeat strongly too, “just think the guys were burnt last week (after the India match). The guys were incredibly hurt by media, by public, by social media, and hopefully we got a proper reaction from them today that can just shut some people up for a little while,” said the disappointed head coach while talking to media.
Pakistan since has made a strong comeback, beating South Africa to keep their semi-final chances alive.”It happens so quick. You lose a game; you lose another game; it’s a World Cup,” said Mickey Arthur.
The deprecating humour Pakistanis take on often makes for great offhanded jokes from time to time, but when it reaches aggressive overtones, people who call themselves ‘fans’ need to check their behavior and the entitlement with which they hurl insults at other people.
Here’s to hoping the upcoming matches are enjoyable and drama free!

HUM TV’s love affair with periodic dramas knows no bounds.
From Daastan to Aangan, fans have welcomed the moving stories with open arms and have buried their tragic tales deep in their hearts.
It is no secret that Aangan is successfully dominating the airwaves and has left the audience hooked to the screens.
So much more is yet to unveil in the classic magnum opus. And Momina Duraid has already teased us with yet another periodic piece ‘Deewar-e-Shab’ and it seems that things are about to get more intense for drama buffs.
Set in the 1980’s, the drama is an adaption of Aliya Bukhari’s novel of the same name and is directed by Iqbal Hussain.
The crème de la crème of drama industry has been roped in for Deewar-e-Shab with Bushra Ansari, Asma Abbas, Zara Noor Abbas, Sarah Khan, Shahroz Sabzwari, Shahzad Sheikh, Mohsin Abbas Haider and many more all set to enthrall the audience.
The emotion-laden drama is not your ordinary periodic love saga. The story seems an intense roller-coaster ride with pain, struggle and heartbreak written all over it.
This is what Deewar-e-Shab has in store for us:
So far one thing is pretty evident that Deewar-e-Shab is a heroin powered drama.
What’s more, it is apparent who the true stars of the saga are. The trio of ‘Bushra Ansari, Asma Abbas and Zara Noor Abbas’ have stolen the limelight, each standing out in their diverse roles.
From the looks, Deewar-e-Shab is a depiction of head-strong courtesans who earn with their talent and not their bodies.
While Zara and Bushra appear to have a doting mother-daughter relationship, Asma has donned the role of the vile aunt who is set to destroy the order of the house.
We also realize how women in the drama are succumb to pressure for marriage against their will. However, our firecracker heroin Zara definitely looks like a rebel and will defy all odds to discover a destiny of her own. But will she succeed? Only time will tell.
A little fast-forward to the next generation and we witness Sarah Khan, Shahzad Sheikh and Shahroz Sabzwari vying hard to break the shackles of the past.
Young couple in love, Sarah and Shahzad are separated by the hands of a forced marriage and the angry young man, Shahroz is seen mutinous over the blood of courtesans flowing in his veins.
We have a strong hunch that Shahroz is Zara’s son who returns to his family after his mother parted ways.
Meanwhile, Bushra Ansari can be spotted as a bitter, heartbroken mom throughout with her younger daughter Nausheen Shah too compelled to nuptial against her will.
Mohsin Abbas Haider who plays Nausheen’s love interest in the drama is likely to bid us farewell soon in the story as shown with the glimpse of his death in the teaser.
We are already aware that Deewar-e-Shab is not your mainstream romance story. It’s throbbing with pain of separation and remorse, are portraying that viewers should brace themselves for a hard-hitting end.
We bet the new generation shown in the drama will challenge the rules of the bygone and will dare to fight for their right to love.
Like all HUM TV dramas, the sets look magnificent and even more stunning is the periodic regalia donned by the heroines in the tale.
All of this combined, we have high hopes from this one. But will it create a splash like Dastaan did and Aangan is on its way to make? Let’s wait and watch.
