Aamina Sheikh, Ahsan Khan move forward to educate isolated kids online!

The whole country is currently going through a rough period where people are restricted inside their homes, due to the Lockdown by the Government.

They can only go outside once in two days (in Sindh) that too while wearing masks and carrying a sanitiser. As for kids, they are either glued to Television or Streaming Applications, as they can’t go out to play or meet friends. In such depressing conditions, a few celebrities have come forward with innovative ideas to keep your children busy, and they are taking over the internet.

Leading actors Ahsan Khan, Aamina Sheikh, and Sarwat Gillani proved that you can be a celebrity and a good parent if you spend time with them.

While Ahsan Khan’s only video with his kids reading Islamic Stories became viral, Aamina Sheikh’s YouTube channel ‘Meissa Mama’ nearly crossed 2.75K subscribers in no time.

The actress and her daughter Meissa have a conversation in these videos in which the mother reads stories in Urdu, and the daughter tells her what is happening in the illustrations, sometimes in Urdu and sometimes in English, which is then explained by ‘Meissa Mama’ in Urdu. We spoke to both Aamina Sheikh and Ahsan Khan and asked them what made them go for children’s education and how they plan to develop their idea.

Aamina, what made you go for a Kids YouTube channel ‘Meissa Mama’ in the first place?

In the current times of Corona, with children out of schools and at home, with working mothers and fathers now asked to work from home, and people practicing social distancing in lockdown, there was hardly anything in the Urdu language online to keep children busy. That’s where Meissa Mama came in; it’s an Edu-tainment platform designed to build community through progressive and entertaining content for children, and parents globally.

Here, we focus on providing edu-taining content and resources for home learning for children, caregivers and their parents with a whole lot of love, with specific emphasis on the Urdu language!

We are now on the world wide web 🤗 . . Log on to www.meissamama.com and SUBSCRIBE to be the first to know whats coming next ! . . MeissaMama is going to be an all inclusive comprehensive Edu-tainment & E-commerce platform for children and adults alike, not just in the times of corona/ covid-19, but in all times to come, inshAllah. . . Learning Urdu will be one leg of the platform being developed extensively now to make Urdu easy, fun, and entertaining to our children and families globally. As this branch grows we will develop other avenues within MeissaMama which will cater to providing wholesome and unique interactive edu-taining resources for children and adults alike . . I am so excited and looking forward to the growth of MeissaMama and giving wings to all the exceptional ideas already in the pipeline as we put it all together piece by piece to educate, entertain, and enrich the daily lives of our stakeholders all over the world ! . I give you www.meissamama.com With Love, Aamina . . #edutainment #children #childrenscontent #childrenstories #storytime #storytimeforkids #urdu #bachonkikahaniyaan #urdukahaniyan #urduforkids #urdustories #family #familytime #distantlearning #elearning #homelearning #homeschooling #meissamama #aaminasheikh

Describe your channel in one sentence, so that those who have no clue, get the idea?

For starters, we are doing daily uploads of Urdu storytelling for kids! It’s full of fun, joy, laughter, gentle lessons to be learned rather lovingly and most importantly it focuses on the understanding of the Urdu language – the preservation of which is essential in our community and to play our part in the contribution to sustaining world languages by teaching our children our mother tongue.

And then there is Ahsan Khan who had previously worked in an animated film Tick Tock for kids a couple of years back and has been pressing for more such content on our TV channels. The manner in which he has been hosting Knorr Noodles Boriyat Busters on TV for a couple of seasons makes him the young audience’s favorite host. Add to that his association with Children’s Literature Festival (CLF) and it comes as no surprise that he was amongst the first few celebrities to come up with a video that went viral for many reasons.

The first being the content that was related to Islamic History, something we don’t teach our kids these days, and the second being the way his own sons answered his questions. When asked what made Ahsan go for a video with his own kids, the Udaari actor had a lot to say.

What made you for a video targeting the younger audience in the first place, Ahsan?

Interaction with kids should be the most important part of any parents’ daily routine but unfortunately, many parents don’t get that kind of time because of their busy schedule. With the whole family confined at home due to Corona, people have suddenly found leisure time on their hands, which they spend watching TV or surfing the internet.

My own kids couldn’t go out due to Lockdown but they had books at home that kept them busy. I have been a firm believer in teaching your kids yourself and that’s why we share a friendly bond. During Corona Lockdown, when we were reading a book and discussing it, that gave me the idea of not limiting the discussion to just us, but to all the kids out there. I had some idea that my video will reach other kids but it will become so viral, that was a pleasant surprise, and I am thankful to all for watching it.

The next step would be to come up with similar stuff that teaches my kids and others like them out there something that they don’t know through fun facts about animals, things, places besides Islamic stories from history. I just don’t want to limit it to YouTube, it should be free for all to put on their own FB and Instagram pages so it reaches out more and more people. It’s very important for us to focus on something that is teaching them something like general knowledge, ethics, and moralistic stuff from our rich history.

How do you plan to take the initiative forward, Ahsan?

I have been approached by a couple of TV channels as well to make it a regular thing so I am just analyzing what to do. We live in a fast pace world where fathers work their hearts out for the family, and most mothers manage their kids’ like superhumans. We need to spend a little amount of time with our kids as they need us more than anything while growing up. If I manage to make a few parents realize the importance of that, I would achieve a lot because that would help in the development of both the parents and the kids. If it takes my kids to make them realize that, I am all for it!

Aamina Sheikh concluded the discussion by announcing the launch of her Meissa Mama website (www.meissamama.com) and how she wants to take it forward.

Although the current situation propelled me to take action by launching Meissa Mama and bring forward our launch plans, the actual ideas & plans have been brewing for quite some time now. Having traveled the world very extensively with my little one since her birth, while fulfilling her growing developmental needs wherever I went, I was continuously being exposed and enlightened to a variety of learning methodologies out there.

Combining it with my own background in creative arts, entertainment, and the social experience took on a whole other dimension, as well as a growth spurt, so-to-speak, which played a key role in developing my own ways of home learning that worked wonderfully for us.

Hence, although because of the current times and needs, we kick-started this initiative with Urdu Storytelling, one of our strengths, as we believe in all the values attached to it. Meissa Mama is going to be an all-inclusive comprehensive Edu-tainment & e-commerce platform for children and adults alike at all times. Learning Urdu will be only one leg of the platform developed extensively to make Urdu easy, fun, and entertaining to our children and families globally.

As this branch grows we will develop other avenues within Meissa Mama which will cater to providing wholesome and unique interactive edu-taining resources for children and adults alike. My team & I look forward to developing that further and giving wings to all the exceptional ideas already in the pipeline as we put it all together piece by piece to educate, entertain, and enrich the daily lives of our stakeholders all over the world!

Sabaat will have many lessons for the audience: Mawra Hocane

With its premiere just mere days away, Hum TV’s latest jewel in the crown appears the much-awaited drama ‘Sabaat’.

The time of its release couldn’t be more perfect. With the Corona Virus lockdown taking over the country and our Netflix playlist almost finished, we surely needed a new story to entice us.

And what could be better than a tale with a heartthrob like Usman Mukhtar gracing our screens all over again, along with powerful performers- Sarah Khan and Mawra Hocane.

However, there is another promising hunk ‘Ameer Gilani’ that will be sharing screen space along with these big-wigs in the drama. The rising star looks striking across the Hocane haseena in the promos and we are expecting a fresh, scintillating and perplexing romantic saga to soon become a part of our lives.

Penned by Kashif Anwar and directed by Shehzad Kashmiri of Aana fame, Sabaat is no run-of-the-mill project. Its plot is packed with deep lessons, surprises and mega twists for fans that will light up our Sunday nights all over again.

We sat down with the new pair in town, Mawra and Ameer to know more about Sabaat. Is it just a love story or revolves around women empowerment? The duo spill the beans!

What made you opt for Sabaat so soon after Daasi?

Mawra: Sabaat had been offered to me before Daasi and I had connected to the character as soon as I read it. The project has a spiritual value to it. It’s been a life-changing experience for me so I’m glad I jumped into shooting it a few days after Daasi. I hope our audience would like it once it airs.

The initial teaser shows Ameer head over heels in love with Aanya.  The other teaser Anaya’s fight against harassment and for empowerment. Is there a specific reason that this current matter has been made a part of the drama?

Mawra: It is only coincidental that it’s a current issue but I think harassment has been an issue from the beginning of times.

I’m happy to give back to society in whatever little capacity I can, it’s very important for our women to feel safe at the workplace, universities and on the roads for us to grow forward as a society.

Ameer: I think women empowerment is a very important topic nowadays, thankfully. It should’ve never been an issue in the first place but at least now it’s being addressed. Both men and women should fight for what’s right and support each other for it, sometimes that support can turn into love- which is why you see the contrast in the two teasers.

What should be the one reason that the audience must watch Sabaat? Will the drama have any takeaways for the viewers?

Mawra: Sabaat will have many lessons for the audience that are very intricately placed in the script. While the audience will have their learning, it won’t make the drama any less entertaining Inshaa Allah.

How was your experience working with your co-stars in the drama?

Mawra: Ameer Gilani plays my hero in this beautiful love story ‘Sabaat’ and what do I say, I have not worked with an actor so driven and dedicated in a long time. His newness brought such a fresh effect both on-screen and on the set. I’m sure the audience is going to love him. To say the least I think it won’t be long till Ameer makes his presence felt in the top actors of the country. It’s been an excellent experience working with him.

Sarah plays an extremely important character in our story as a protagonist is nothing without the antagonist. She has many years of experience. I think and believe that our energies bounced well off of each other during really difficult scenes. As Miraal, Sarah was very fierce and dominating for Anaya. I hope it has translated well on screen.

I got to learn a lot from the actors who play the role of my parents. Simi Raheal is very comfortable to work with. It seems like you’re working with someone your age as she’s so young at heart and amazing with her energy on set. Mohammed Ahmed Sahab is brilliant during scenes & humorous otherwise. With him, it’s been laughing fits and crying sessions on and off-camera.

Ameer: Mawra is one of the most humble, fun-loving people I’ve come across. She has been very helpful. She would guide me when I would struggle, motivate me when I would get nervous and applaud when I would get a scene right.

I think usually people are more consumed with how they look or perform but Mawra is one of those people who makes sure that the other person does just as good or even better, which is rare.

Sabaat is not even out yet but the hype is high for it already. What do you think is the reason? Do you think it will meet the expectations of the audience?

Mawra: It’s always scary when there’s a hype around a project but it’s also gratifying as the audience has put their faith in you even before the project. The reason could be the director Shehzad Kashmiri as he has big projects to his name and also our fan followings that I’m extremely grateful for. I hope we live up to the audiences’ expectations as there’s no bigger test than that for an actor. So fingers crossed!

Ameer: The cast, we have Mawra Hocane, Usman Mukhtar, Sarah Khan, Leyla Zuberi jee, Muhammad Ahmed sir, Simi Raheel jee and of course it’s a Shahzad Kashmiri play.

Luckily people will see my performance because of the hype that these people have created.

For those who are not aware, Sabaat will be aired every Sunday at 8:00 PM on HUM TV and starts this week! Better not miss this one.

There was a thought behind Ehd-e-Wafa, a purpose which I think has been achieved: Wahaj Ali

Ehd-e-Wafa: the name alone has the power of evoking evergreen memories and timeless entertainment that left a progressive mark on the younger generation and the drama industry in general.

In a matter of months and 25 episodes, the meaningful story of four solemn friends became a part of our lives. The shenanigans of Saad, Shariq, Shahzain, and Shehryar made this drama a blockbuster success, making families unite on Sundays in front of the television to witness their rollercoaster ride of a life.

With Saad and Shahzian leading the squad, the journalist Shariq remained a supporting character in the indelible plot. But in no time, he towered to steal the spotlight and made his way to the top with his passion for his career.

The credit goes to the breakout hero Wahaj Ali who impeccably essayed the boyish, daring character and made us fall in love with his confidence.

No doubt, the actor has been on our screens for the past five years in various popular serials. But he made Ehd e Wafa an avant-garde project that rose him to exponential stardom!

We sat down with the dandy performer for a light-hearted chat and quizzed him about his journey as Shariq in Ehd e Wafa. He is soon to be seen across Yumna Zaidi and has even locked a movie!

Being in a star cast with big names like Ahad, Ahmed, and Osman, did it get competitive for you working with them in the drama? How has the journey been so far?

To be honest, the name is not important. However, prowess is important- how skill one is in their craft. And I believe Ahad, Osman, and Ahmed are super-talented people. They are gifted.

When you are working with people who know the craft, then the experience of performing alongside them is always amazing. It was not at all tough but I had a great time and I don’t think I will ever forget it.

Shariq’s quest to be an honest journalist often lands himself in hot water. What takeaways do you want the audience to learn from your character?

The first thing that appears in my mind after hearing this question is- “Darna Nahi Hai” (Laughs).  You just have to stay focus no matter what and no matter how many hurdles come in your way.

The amount of sincerity and loyalty towards your work is important. You just have to think positively and feel optimistic. And with God’s will, one is easily able achieve his or her goal.

Time and again in Ehd e Wafa we have seen SSG clashing with each other. How do you think friends in real life should deal with such dilemmas?

True friends cannot carry grudges. No fight or argument can destroy their camaraderie. It is all part of life. Life is difficult and conflicts happen. They do impact for a certain time in love but whenever true friends meet, even after a certain time, they can feel the thriving affection and purity towards one another.

That’s what we portrayed in the Ehd e Wafa that real friends always remain well-wishers.

Do you think Ehd e Wafa has been a game-changer for your career?

Yes, I was very anxious about how my performance will be received by the audience. But thanks to God, they loved it and I can say that it was a game-changer. Success is not how much fan-following one gains. Success is how many people can connect to your character after your performance.

I don’t believe in fan-following. I consider the importance of how believable is your work. And whenever I go out and meet people, they shower me with immense love and appreciation. They give me so much of respect and discuss my character with me. Some even want to consider journalism now and that makes me happy. I feel good about it!

Let’s talk about Hajra Yamin. How was it working with her in the drama?

I had a great time working with her. She is a wonderful, fabulous and effortless actress. She has a very natural approach to acting. We didn’t have to work so hard but people loved our pairing and the feedback we received was commendable.

In what way you believe your role in Ehd e Wafa can bring a positive change for the Pakistani audience?

Honestly, I feel everybody possesses a different lens on how they perceive things, what is their approach towards life and how they function.

This project was different because it was not a run-of-the-mill story. There was a thought behind Ehd e Wafa, a purpose which I think has been achieved. If we talk about women, its story highlighted four strong women. However, in other projects, we see the female character in distress and her life goal is only to get married.

The good thing about the project was that Ehd e Wafa was about friendship, sacrifice, passion for work and love towards your family. It covered a lot of aspects and I hope that it creates a difference. And the feedback of the viewers depicts that hopefully, we will see a change happening.

You also played a cameo role in Superstar of Nadeem Baig’s younger character. How was the experience playing the role?

I had to play Nadeem Sahab’s younger role and for that, I saw a lot of his movies for reference. I realized how big of an artist he is. Sometimes you are not able to feel the magnanimity of a persona. But when you witness their work, then you realize that you are nowhere. And there is a huge journey yet to travel.

My homework ended up giving me a big realization. Also, I broke the ice with a big director like Etishamuddin. In the future, if I get a chance to work with him, I will do it with my eyes closed!

Can you tell us about your Kashf Foundation’s new with Yumna Zaidi?

It has an ensemble cast like Nauman Ijaz, Yasra Rizvi, Omair Rana, Navid Shahzad and of course Yumna.

Talking about Yumna, I will say she is an effortlessly beautiful and gifted actress. When you are working with people I have named, you don’t have to do much. They give such a natural action, that you only react in response. This is the beauty of your performance. The project is directed by Kashif Nisar, so you can imagine the seriousness of the project.

I don’t want to shed light on the topic we are working on but I am sure people will love it.

What is coming up next for Wahaj? Will we be seeing you on the silver screen soon?

I and Hajra are working on one project and it is a beautiful story written by Asma Nabeel. It is on breast cancer. It highlights hope, awareness and the way she has embedded her experience in the story, I feel the audience will love it.

It is a believable tale. It is very realistic. It doesn’t make you dream but highlights a truth that will make people care for themselves and feel that life is indeed glorious.
