Like every year, some of the biggest names of our entertainment industry have made it to Pakistan Civil Awards 2020.
Recognizing them for their honorable work in their field, the Government of Pakistan pays a tribute to these veterans for serving the country and making us all proud of their remarkable work.
All of the artists and veterans that have made it to the list have a deep bond with Hum Network, and we cannot have been more honored to have them as a part of the booming Hum family.
Working in several Hum’s dramas and projects, these heroes have worked to collectively elevate their careers along with the entertainment network and uplifted the industry and the entire country on the whole.
Let’s take a quick look at the services of these legends of Pakistan’s entertainment industry, their work, and accomplishments that will forever be a part of their grand legacy.
Sultana Siddiqui
The ultimate boss woman and a far-sighted leader, the president of Hum Network Sultana Siddiqui has been marked amongst the visionary citizens awarded the third-highest honor and civilian award, Sitara-i-Imtiaz.
A driving force and the face of Hum, Sultana Appa has ensured she leaves no stone unturned in heading the network and ensuring that quality content is produced throughout its avant-garde 15 years of success. So much so, she is the first woman in South Asia to establish a T.V channel and we cannot be more proud of this leading light of a lady.
A look at her life proves that she has bravely shattered the glass ceiling and boasts more than forty years of a seismic career as a producer, director, and now head of a thriving network of channels. Under her leadership, the channel has produced some of the best projects in Pakistan, including Udaari, Rehaai, Kankar, Humsafar, and of course, Zindagi Gulzar Hai. She continues to be the dynamic dean of Pakistani entertainment via the innovative business model of an empire she has built.
Sultana Siddiqui couldn’t be more grateful for the wonderful feat and vies to work even harder. Here’s what she told Spotlight during a candid chat:
I never keep expectations regarding receiving awards. Since the beginning of my career, I just aim that I excel at my work. Nothing else comes to my mind other than this. Nevertheless, when you get such a recognition, you are grateful to your Lord and your heart craves to do even greater things.
It is already a responsibility for you when you have set your mind at a particular task. When I was working on Zindagi Gulzar Hai, I was concerned that what if my work was not up to the mark. And when you are at such a high post that people look up to you as the only channel being led by a professional, you have huge accountability. There is a sword of responsibility hanging on my head 24/7 of being the best at my work.
Bushra Ansari
Bushra Ansari needs no introduction and this isn’t the first time either that she has made it to the Pakistan Civil Awards.
Back in 1989, she bagged the Pride of Performance Award by the Government of Pakistan. This year, she has been bestowed with Sitara-i-Imtiaz for her contributions to the industry over six decades. She is a glowing icon and an evergreen legend, featuring an illustrious career with charming performances in projects like 50-50, AnganTerha, The Barat Series and not to forget, Udaari on Hum TV.
She has also blessed other Hum TV projects like Bilquees Kaur, Pakeeza, MeraNaseeb, Deewar-e-Shab, and much recently Zebaish with her hard work, sometimes as an actor and other times as a writer.
Talking to Spotlight, BushraAapa was extremely elated upon receiving her much due Sitara-i-Imtiaz.
I am much honored to receive the award and the recognition bestowed by the Government of Pakistan. You get this award only when you have done immense work and people deem you as ‘iconic’. It takes immense hard work and a long journey to receive such acclaim.
I will continue to maintain the standard of work and avail the respect granted by Allah and our audience. Such awards do make us honorable but also remind us to be a useful human for our society. So we should ensure we return the love society gives us and impart awareness to help our people.
Talat Hussain
When we talk about Talat Hussain, his countless projects and memorable characters come to mind. He is stylish, classic, and a giant performer of our industry. It was only about time that the country acknowledged his work in the field of entertainment and bestowed him with Sitara-i-Imtiaz.
Pushing boundaries and experimenting with his roles, Talat Hussain rules every scene with his natural delivery. His bona fide persona and authoritative voice only added all the more spirit to his work. He has been featured in several foreign films and series. Whatever Talat learned from his studies and stints abroad, he made sure he brought his learnings to Pakistan. That’s why his acting was class-apart and he owned every frame, every scene he performed.
Hum TV fans would remember his performance as a bed-ridden father in MannMayal. His immaculate performance and strong camaraderie with Hamza Ali Abbasi made the serial worth a watch.
Sakina Samo
A woman of substance, Sakina Samo is the perfect start in the industry. She is a combination of intellect and talent that makes her amongst the most elite performers of her time. The depth, passion, and integrity in her personality are reflected in her work. She glows wherever she goes and conquers the screen in every role.
With avatars so diverse, our sweet SamoAppa has proved that she can ace any role. From acting in Jungle, Choti Si Dunya, Hawa Ki Beti, DilBanjaara, Aseerzadim, Dar Si Jati Hai Saila to directing MohabatSubhKaSitara Hai on Hum TV, the thespian has proved she is extraordinary.
Back in 2011, she was granted with Tamgha-e-Imtiaz in recognition of her work in the Pakistani entertainment industry. This time, she has been bestowed with the President’s Award for Pride of Performance.
The year is even bigger for her as her first feature film, Intezaar is set to premiere at New York’s Harlem International Film Festival.
Humayun Saeed
What can be better for Humayun than celebrating his 25 years in Pakistan’s entertainment industry with the glorious Pride of Performance award from the Government of Pakistan?
One thing is certain: make Humayun part of any project and it is bound to reap ratings or be a box-office hit! An evergreen superstar and one of the most ‘bankable’ artists, Humayun has worked in more than 80 dramas so far, most of them being predominantly massive hits. Saeed is every inch ‘hero material’ and despite the criticism that he often casts himself in his own projects, the audience turns out in hoards to watch him on screen.
People cannot get enough of him, his recent successful hit both on the big and small screen are evident of this. His performance in Bin Roye across is everyone’s favorite, Mahira Khan affirmed him as the ultimate lover boy. Furthermore, his cameo in Ehd e Wada added more life to the already hit drama.
We caught with Humayun to ask him how he feels about receiving the honor. Here is what he had to say:
This is indeed an awesome and respectful surprise I received on August 14th and my happiness doubled on Independence Day after hearing this news.
I feel that whatever work I will do in the future will be with the same passion and hard work. Such recognition does elevate one’s responsibility. Responsibility increases after every project. We are still learning and there is a lot to do in this field. We are still far from bigger industries like Hollywood.
It is our responsibility that we keep learning and keep entertaining our audiences. I am thankful to the people who worked with me always. I am grateful to Allah for the respect he has given me and the viewers who continue to show love. I feel I am the luckiest actor and producer in this field.
Ali Zafar
The past couple of years have been tough for Ali Zafar, given that he was caught in controversy but took to the court to clear his name from the scandal once and for all. Nevertheless, his ardent fans remained strong beside him. And now that he has earned the Pride of Performance award, his followers could not have been more elated.
A painter, poet, singer, and an actor, Ali Zafar is insanely gifted. From his Coke Studio renditions to PSL Anthems, chart-topping singles like ‘Channo’ to his action-packed ‘Teefa’ avatar, Zafar has aced it all.
What’s more, he has even proved his mettle in Bollywood working with big-wigs across the border in movies like Tere Bin Laden, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, London, Paris, New York, and Dear Zindagi. His OST for Hum TV dramas like Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Ehd e Wafa and now Mushk have been a hit, garnering millions of views and adding the musical spark to our favorite dramas.
