It’s raining brothers and sisters on HUM TV!

HUM TV is not only the premier drama channel in Pakistan, it is also the only channel that promotes talent wholeheartedly.

In the last two years, they have come up with dramas that have managed to carve a place in the viewers’ mind. However, there is one very common factor that joins most of these dramas – it’s raining brothers and sisters on HUM TV. Before you start counting the names of the many siblings who are actively performing on TV, let us make it easy for you.

Mawra Hocane in Sabaat, Urwa Hocane in Mushk

What are the odds of two sisters, both doing lead roles in separate dramas and both the dramas doing well, one on Saturday, and the other on Sunday? Yes, we are talking about the mature performance of Mawra Hocane in Sabaat and the mysterious performance of Urwa Hocane in MushkIf one is the poster girl of Strong-Willed Woman, the other is the advertisement of Perfect Con Woman, and they both are doing a fabulous job.

Paired with Ameer Gilani, Mawra has had three back to back hits on HUM TV; first, there was Aangan where she excelled as the protagonist, then came Daasi that ended just before Sabaat began. While she was a firecracker in Daasi, she plays a restrained woman in Sabaat where she supports her husband, stands by him when no one from his house does and advises him like an equal, not as a subordinate. Her life takes an unexpected turn as the play progresses but she doesn’t lose hope, even when her man deserts her.

On the other hand, Mushk is Urwa’s return to TV after four years, and she couldn’t have chosen a better play opposite writer/actor Imran Ashraf. She plays the intriguing Guddi who is on the run from the law, lives with someone she randomly met at the railway station (Momal Sheikh) and carries around a kid that isn’t hers. Add to that her attitude towards the very people who have given her shelter and you have an explosive character in your midst.

Momal Sheikh in Mushk, Shehzad Sheikh in Tum Ho Wajah

Talking of Mushk means talking of Mehak, the character immortalized by Momal Sheikh, whose brother Shehzad has been playing lead characters in HUM TV plays regularly. The kids of veteran actor Jawed Sheikh have acted in their genes and they are utilizing it in the best way possible.

Shehzad played the central character in last year’s Anaa opposite Hania Aamir, after which he was part of Deewar-e-Shab and currently is playing the main lead in Tum Ho Wajah opposite Sumbul Iqbal. All these plays have done well and cemented Shehzad’s place as the leading actor in the country.

On the other hand, this is probably the first time that Momal Sheikh’s potential has been fully tapped; as Mehak, she plays a one-of-its-kind character. Her character gets married to her boyfriend in London, bears him a kid and when he doesn’t return, comes back to Pakistan, with a stranger (Urwa Hocane) who carries her kid around, posing as its biological mother.

Until and unless Mehak’s husband (Osama Tahir) returns or rather escapes from his uncle’s cell, she will have to carry on with the dramatics, a job that Momal Sheikh is doing perfectly. She looks every part the mother who wants to be with her kid but can’t because of her family, and when her character is accused of something she hadn’t done, she tries to prove her innocence just like any of us would.

Sajal Aly in Ye Dil Mera, Saboor Aly in Tum Ho Wajah

Compile a list of most loved actresses in Pakistan and Sajal Aly’s name will appear in the top five. Even before her marriage to fellow actor and collaborator Ahad Raza Mir, Sajal Aly had proven her worth as a versatile actress. Be it Yakeen Ka Safar in 2017, O Rungreza in 2018, or Aangan in 2019, Sajal Aly has been delivering hits on HUM TV like a pro.

Her last performance on the channel was in Ye Dil Mera where she played Adnan Siddiqui’s daughter and Ahad Raza Mir’s girlfriend-turned-wife, the last time before becoming his off-screen wife as well. Written by Farhat Ishtiaq and directed by Aehsun Talish, the suspenseful mystery drama garnered both ratings and praise from all quarters, especially because of Sajal’s performance.

Sajal’s younger sister Saboor Aly isn’t far behind either. Not only she is amongst the few actresses who are playing different kinds of characters, but she is also making a name for herself, as someone who can accept roles others won’t agree to. In Naqab Zun, she played a rape survivor while in Tum Ho Wajahshe is part of the ensemble cast but standing out due to her strong acting.

Sarah Khan in Sabaat, Noor Khan in Bharam

And then there is Sarah Khan, the star actress who has so many avatars in her backpack that she can surprise you, shock you and stun you at the same time. While Mere Humdum was on air during the first half of 2019, she played a bechari character as per our standards; in Deewar-e-Shab she had an entirely different character while in Sabaat, she changes gear and becomes the worst form of a human being who is controlling, vengeful and above all, doesn’t trust anyone.

As Miraal, Sarah Khan delivers a career-defining performance; be it her dresses, her mannerisms or her ability to belittle her family members, she has changed the audience’s perception of the Sarah Khan they knew and loved. Now everyone hates her, even those who were in love with the actress and her miserable onscreen personas. If that isn’t a great performance, I don’t know what is!

However, Sarah Khan isn’t the only one of her talented siblings; her younger sister Noor Khan has been part of some hit dramas on HUM TV such as Tau Dil Ka Kia Hua and Bharam that aired during 2017 and 2019. Although she hasn’t returned to HUM TV since Bharamher fans want her to make a comeback, the sooner the better. The two have a third sister who may not have debuted as an actress but is making round in the entertainment circles.

The eldest of the three sisters Aisha Khan stunned the whole world by expertly planning Sarah Khan’s wedding that took place a couple of months back. Aisha Khan is making a name for herself as a wedding planner and if you want your wedding ceremony to go smooth like Sarah Khan’s, then she is your go-to person!

Bushra Ansari, Asma Abbas in Zebaish

Last but not the least, there is Bushra Ansari and Asma Abbas, who have been part of the showbiz industry for over 4 decades. They can act, they can sing and in the case of Bushra Ansari, write as well. Since Fifty Fifty in the 1980s, they have been active first as leading ladies, and later as character actresses but the two sisters hadn’t worked together before last year’s Deewar-e-Shab.

Within a year they were back together in Zebaish where they shared the screen with Asma’s daughter and Bushra’s niece Zara Noor Abbas who is also a terrific actressBoth Bushra and Asma play different characters in both the dramas, in a different setting, and above all, different avatars and while Bushra Ansari wins the sibling rivalry in one scene, Asma Abbas emerges victorious in the other.
