Even in its 16th year as Pakistan’s number one drama channel, HUM TV continues to air meaningful content that is suitable for the entire family. Their latest project Phaans just released its OST and teasers and would be coming soon to your screens with an ensemble cast that will make your day. Before moving ahead, let’s take a look at the soulful OST composed by (music composer) Sami Khan and sung by the talented Rimsha Khan.
As you can see, Sami Khan (actor) and Shehzad Sheikh will be leading the cast but the bulk of the scenes seem to feature Zara Noor Abbas, who returns with a bang as a simple girl, instead of the usual glorified one. In a few scenes, she looks like a vision whereas, in others, she seems depressed for some reason that would be revealed to the viewers once the drama airs. She might or might not be the bone of contention between the two handsome hunks, but with Yashma Gill also in the frame, there seems to be something cooking that no one knows about.
Written by Samina Ejaz and directed by Syed Ahmed Kamran, Phaans seems like an interesting story with twists, turns, and drama rolled into one. Zara Noor Abbas spoke to Spotlight about her character and termed it as something she hasn’t done before.
According to the Ehd-e-Wafa actress, ‘The character in Phaans is something I have not done before, and it has brought a lot of emotional strength for me. I remember I was at a very weak point in my life when I signed the play and started shooting for it and over the entire process of it, gained all that strength within me that I thought I had lost.”
While talking about the story, Zara Noor Abbas added “Phaans is about everyone who has once lost to the system and takes all strength again to fight against all odds, against the world. Against power.”
Strong words indeed. The actress also credits her director for being supportive during the shoot and dedicates all the hard work to him. “I have had an amazing time shooting the project with my co-actors. Especially my director Syed Ahmed Kamran, who has been very very supportive throughout the project. I would like to dedicate all hard work to him on this one.”
The teasers also highlight a new kid on the block who looks like Shehzad Sheikh. Wait – that is Shehzad Sheikh, who seems to have de-aged somehow and looks quite young when compared to his last few projects. He plays a character who is not normal and is treated affectionately by all, except for his father played by Ali Tahir, who looks cross in a few sequences that feature in the OST with his son.
While talking to Spotlight, the actor disclosed that he plays Sahil who is an autistic boy and has difficulty in coping with people around him. ‘This character is something I haven’t played before; it’s that of a boy who’s autistic and has difficulties coping with people around him. Sahil has been a challenge for me only, I hope that I’ve put some soul in the character and now the audience will be the best judge.”
While talking about the ensemble cast, he said that he had a great time, especially since he was sharing the screen with most of the people for the first time. “It’s my first time working with Sami, Zara, Yashma, Ali Tahir, and Arjumand – everyone has been very cooperative and phenomenal to work with. Really looking forward to Phaans!”
And then there is the versatile Sami Khan, who plays a good guy one day, a bad guy another, and a guy with shades of both on the rest of the occasions. With Dulhan and Saraab already doing well on HUM TV, where the viewers are loving his work, here comes Phaans where nobody is sure what side he is on. And he is in no mood to disclose whether we should love him or hate him in the play.
“Unlike Dulhan and Saraab, Phaans is a different project that revolves around an incident that changes the lives of those involved,” Sami Khan told Spotlight when approached for a comment on his upcoming play. “I am one of the characters who are part of the mystery that will keep the audience intrigued in the initial episodes. Am I innocent or am I guilty? That’s the suspense that will keep Phaans interesting.”
Interesting and intriguing both, and with Ahmed Kamran as the director, things will fold nicely at their own pace. Sami Khan also hailed his co-stars with whom he was sharing the screen for the first time, but since they clicked on the project, it helped them all immensely. “Working with Zara and Shehzad was a wonderful experience as was with director Ahmed Kamran. When the team you work with gives their 100 percent it makes the project all the more memorable and I am hopeful that Phaans also wouldn’t disappoint the audience.”
With talented actors Yashma Gill, Arjumand Rahim, Kinza Malik, Mariam Mirza, Zain Afzal, and others in the cast, Phaans promises to be entertaining as well as educative to the HUM TV viewers. Will Sahil save the day for Zara Noor Abbas’ character, why is his father suspicious of everyone and what is Sami Khan’s relationship with these characters, wait for a few days to get clarity and become part of the mystery!
